On August 22, 2012, there was an official merger of two universities in Pyatigorsk: a branch of SevKavGTU and Perm State Technical University. Currently, the structure of the Institute of Service, Tourism and Design (branch) of the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "North Caucasus Federal University" includes 5 faculties and 25 departments. The branch has 11 educational buildings, which makes the learning process not only efficient, but also comfortable.
The NCFU branch in the city of Pyatigorsk is not just an educational institution of higher education. It absorbed the experience and capabilities of the two largest universities in Pyatigorsk - a branch of the North Caucasus State Technical University and the Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University.
The history of the Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University goes back to 1907, when the Don Technical Institute was established. In the process of its formation and development, the educational institution became known as the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute. He opened a branch in Krasnodar, which later received the status of a state polytechnic institute. In 1969, the branch of the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute acquired the status of the Stavropol Polytechnic Institute, which in 1973 opened the public catering faculty in Pyatigorsk, which became the basis for the formation of the branch of the Stavropol Polytechnic Institute, which was headed in 1995 by Viktor Alekseevich Kaznacheev. In October 1999, the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation V. Putin signed a decree on the creation of a new higher educational institution in the south of Russia - the Pyatigorsk State Technological University, which in May 2011 was transformed into the Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University.
In 1998, a branch of the North Caucasus State Technical University was opened in the city of Pyatigorsk, headed by Mikhail Davidovich Solyar. In 2006, Igor Veniaminovich Glukhov took over as director of the branch. The Pyatigorsk branch of SevKavSTU conducted training in thirteen areas, graduating many first-class specialists. Many professors who taught at the branch are known in the scientific circles of our country and far beyond its borders. According to the order of the Government of the Russian Federation of 22. 2. 012 No. 226 R, as well as orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated 28. 5. 012 No. 444, the North Caucasian State Technical University was chosen as the basis for the creation of the North Caucasian Federal University, to which Stavropol State University and Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University were annexed.

More than 8000 students study at the NCFU branch in Pyatigorsk, a highly qualified scientific and pedagogical team has been formed with high intellectual potential, capable of solving modern problems of high-quality training of specialists. The faculty of the branch numbers more than 369 people (33 doctors of sciences, professors, and more than 213 candidates of sciences, associate professors).
