Maximilian Kirienko-Voloshin was born on May 28, 1877 in Kiev, in the family of a collegiate counselor, lawyer Alexander Kiriyenko-Vloshin, a descendant of Zaporozhye Cossacks, and a German woman named Elena Glazer. The boy's maternal grandfather, Ottobald Glaser, was an engineer-colonel. The mother of the future poet had a strong and strong-willed character; she left her husband shortly after the birth of Maximilian. Max's father died in 1881, when he was only four years old, so the boy grew up with his mother without paternal education. However, it was not needed, the mother herself tried to cultivate fighting qualities of character in her son, but she did not succeed. Once Marina Tsvetaeva noted that Max grows up friendly and peaceful, "without claws."
At the age of sixteen, Maximilian and his mother moved to Crimea, settled in Koktebel. Elena still did not lose hope of raising a fighter out of him, so she persuaded the neighboring boys to provoke Maximilian into a fight. The mother liked that the teenager was fond of the occult, she did not scold him for spending two years in each class of the gymnasium. According to one of the teachers, Max was a complete idiot, and it is simply impossible to teach him anything. Only six months passed, this teacher died, and at his funeral it was Maximilian who read aloud his extraordinary poems.
In the period from 1918 to 1919, Voloshin published two more books of his poems - "Iverni" and "Demons deaf and dumb". Especially colorful were those lines of poems that describe the Eastern Crimea, with the incredible beauty of its nature.

“Traditionally, on this May day, the blossoming courtyard of the House of the Poet was filled with people: friends of the museum came to honor the memory of Maximilian Voloshin, and guests of Koktebel - to watch a literary and musical program that the staff always prepared for the holiday. And also these days many museum specialists, scientists and students, participants of the scientific conference "Voloshin's Readings" gathered in Koktebel. Today the holiday will be held online: the team invites everyone to look into Voloshin's studio, hear his poems performed by actors and poetry dedication performed by the museum staff, see a fragment of the play of the Voloshin public theater “The Game of Flickers”, - the Deputy General Director told the Tourist Portal of Crimea - Natalia Miroshnichenko, head of the Voloshin House-Museum.
Maximilian Voloshin is rightfully considered the poetic discoverer of Cimmeria, a mysterious and legendary country praised by Homer and seen by the poet's creative genius in the beauty of the landscapes of the southeastern Crimea.
"I call the eastern region of Crimea Cimmeria from ancient Surozh (Sudak) to the Cimmerian Bosporus (Kerch Strait), in contrast to Taurida, its western part (the South Coast and Tauric Chersonesos)," Voloshin wrote. A number of poetic cycles belong to him - "Cimmerian Spring", "Cimmerian Twilight".
But before finally settling in Koktebel - on the "Cimmerian land" - the poet managed to visit many places. So, on August 29, 1899, together with his mother Elena Ottobaldovna, he went on the first trip abroad along the route: Feodosia - Odessa - Kiev - Krakow - Vienna - Venice - Verona - Lugano - Zurich - Lucerne - Bern - Geneva - Milan - Locarno - Basel - Paris - Cologne - Berlin.
It is known that in the period from 1912 to 1922. the poet visited Yevpatoria three times, and twice delivered lectures and recited his poems here. The third time he visited Yevpatoria with lectures during the course of mud treatment in Saki in the summer of 1922: Voloshin suffered from inflammation of the joints.
By the way, a special walking tour called "Famous doctors and patients of the Saki resort" is held in Saki, during which you can find out, among other things, how the poet was treated. It will again be available to tourists when all restrictions related to tourism are lifted.
“This excursion is conducted mainly on the territory of the Saki resort park, where the buildings of the old mud baths are located. Usually this is a story about the creation of a mud bath, about famous doctors and professors who worked here. For example, this is Golovkinsky, who played a big role in the discovery of springs with water in Saki, of course, Pirogov and Burdenko. Famous patients were admirals Lazarev, Menshikov, Kornilov, Makarov. From creative figures - Lesya Ukrainka, Gogol, Voloshin. I start with their brief biography and end with how they were treated with mud in Saki, ”Olga Vysokoglyad, a guide from Evpatoria, told the Tourportal.
The Voloshin House in Koktebel, which the poet began to build in 1903, was conceived by him in the form of a ship: platforms and stairs represented decks connected by ladders, and there was an art workshop in the tower. This "ship" actually became the first house of creativity in Russia - in it Voloshin received 500-600 people per summer.
