What to see in Vologda in 2 days

Vologda is a popular weekend travel destination. The city is accessible by transport and is famous for the abundance of architectural monuments. Thanks to old wooden houses and stone mansions in the historical center of Vologda, the city seems frozen in time. Here you want to walk in a measured way, and not rush to see all the sights. Therefore, 2 days is an ideal time to travel to Vologda.

A visit to top tourist sites, a visit to museums, and walks along the old streets can be included in the Vologda route for 2 days. Depending on the season, you can also add holidays on the Vologda River and trips to the suburbs to the route. How to have time to see all the sights of Vologda in 2 days and not miss anything? Make a list in advance of the objects of interest to you.

First day

The first day should be devoted to the main attractions of the city, located on the right bank of the Vologda River. These are the historical districts of Verkhniy Posad, Gorod and Vologda Sloboda. The historic center of the city is small in size, the route can be walked in one day on foot at a leisurely pace.

The route starts in the Verkhniy Posad area. Here you will see old churches built in different centuries. The first on the route will be the Assumption Cathedral, erected at the end of the 17th century. Despite the fact that the cathedral is the architectural dominant of the Gorne-Uspensky monastery, the temple looks quite simple. The Assumption Cathedral was built in the tradition of Russian architecture of the 16th century - with a minimum of decorative elements on the facade. During the Soviet period, the cathedral was closed - film shows were held inside. But now the Gorne-Uspensky Monastery is active again.

Moving to the next church, the Temple of Constantine and Helena, it is worth stopping on the bank of the river in a place called the Lazy Platform. This place many centuries ago was the historical center of the Vologda settlement. The last historical buildings were destroyed during the Soviet period. Now there is a monument "800 years of Vologda", installed in 1959. The Church of Constantine and Helena is considered one of the most beautiful in the city - unlike many other austerely decorated facades of churches in the Russian North, the facade of the Church of Constantine and Helena is made in the Russian patterned style.

After admiring the wooden houses with the famous carved palisades, known from the Soviet song (the main part of the wooden buildings is located in the quarters between Mayakovsky Street and Victory Avenue), see the ensemble of churches of the Ilyinsky parish and go out to the embankment of the Vologda River. Here you can relax in the Kremlin Garden, have a snack and take funny photos with sculptures. Further along the route - the main attraction of Vologda, the Kremlin.

The Vologda Kremlin was founded during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, by order of the tsar. It was built as a defensive structure, but, several centuries later, it lost its military-strategic purpose - the walls with towers were dismantled. The Bishops' Court has survived to this day - the residence of the Vologda bishops, located behind the Kremlin walls, as well as several churches.

The most outstanding building of the Vologda Kremlin is the St. Sophia Cathedral, built under Ivan the Terrible. Inside the cathedral, there are 17th century frescoes and a baroque iconostasis from the mid-18th century. In good weather, it is worth climbing the bell tower of St. Sophia Cathedral - it offers a panoramic view of the historical part of the city and the opposite bank of the Vologda River.

It is worth allocating 2-2.5 hours to visit the Kremlin with a look at the museum expositions. Next, go to the Vologda Sloboda. Along the way, you can see several more churches: the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of the 18th century, the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos at Torgu (18th century) and the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, founded under Ivan the Terrible. Next, you should visit the city market, where you can buy Vologda products. Cross the Rybnoryadskiy bridge to the other side of the Zolotukha River. Here it is worth taking a walk along Prechistenskaya embankment to the Vologodskaya Sloboda exhibition complex. This is where the route of the first day in Vologda ends.

Second day

The second day in Vologda should be devoted to visiting the Spaso-Prilutsky Dimitriev Monastery and walking on the left bank of the Vologda River.

Tourism in the Vologda Oblast should develop in clusters

This task for the region was defined by the participants of the expanded meeting of the Committee on Education, Culture and Health, dedicated to the issue of tourism development.

"In the strategy of socio-economic development of the Vologda Oblast, tourism is named a priority area, - stressed the chairman of the committee for education, culture and health care Lyudmila Yacheistova. - This work is based on a solid legislative base - we have not only federal, but and the regional laws regulating this area. The main directions are clearly and correctly defined. However, our task is to understand all the difficulties and, if necessary, make adjustments to the regional law. "

As Vladimir Osipovsky said, today the Vologda region ranks 9th in Russia in terms of the share of tourism revenues in the gross regional product.

Father Frost's homeland is still the most visited tourist place in the Vologda region - almost 340 thousand Russians and foreigners visited the Winter Wizard during the year. In Kirillov, the number of visits is about 300 thousand per year. The route to Vytegra is still gaining popularity, but it is expected that after the implementation of all infrastructure and information projects, about 100 thousand tourists will come here annually.

"We have developed a separate tourist passport in which the most interesting places to visit in the regions are marked. This is a kind of quest that will encourage people to travel, including in our region," Ilya Mikheev explained <

Director of ANO "My Business" Anton Shopin noted that such an interactive project was developed for Vologda: "This is a special application that

Anton Shopin also added that the Entrepreneurship Support Center provides assistance to businessmen in other areas - compensation for the costs of printed printing, survey work, and training.

Mikhail Sharomazov, General Director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, said that the main problem of tourism in Kirillov and the region as a whole is the lack of infrastructure both in the tourist sites themselves and at the entrances to them: "Most of our tourists are about 2/3 are travelers who come here with family or with a company, and not in large groups. They have nowhere to eat, it is difficult to find a place to sleep. When this year we organized a festival of military-historical reconstruction, all Kirillov was crowded with cars, because that there is no centralized parking, it causes a lot of inconvenience both for residents of the city and for the tourists themselves. "

"Now ChSU, for example, is switching to project-based training, which implies the creation of practical projects by students. We have created a" Bank of Ideas "- anyone can leave an application, which will be implemented in the work of the children. About 80% projects developed at ChSU are accepted and implemented in practice. Municipalities can also act as customers. In addition, do not forget about volunteer activities, practices that will allow children to learn more about the regional tourism sector and find jobs, "explained Dmitry Afanasyev.
