Hello! I want to tell you about my first profession - a tourism manager. At the time of training, I lived in a small town called “Russian Florence” - Yaroslavl, where it is quite easy to get an education for every color and taste. Dreaming of overseas lands, after finishing the 9th grade, I entered an urban planning college, specializing in hotel service and tourism. I think that the percentage of graduates who know what specialty they want to get in the future is small. I was not one of that number. There was absolutely no desire to go to grades 10-11. I wanted something light and relaxed, the choice fell on a florist and a tourism manager. Of course, in my fantasies, I imagined the beauty of European countries and a bunch of euros.
The training itself, as I wanted, was extremely easy. It was necessary to study in the second shift, which made it possible to visit nightclubs and other parties until late in the evening. There were not many homework assignments, and even those, if desired, could be done right at the technical school or by spending at home a maximum of an hour at home. Looking at my friends - interior designers and economists-accountants, I kept repeating to everyone, and first of all to myself: “I have chosen the right path!” There were no super difficult tasks, I could boldly strain myself and get a red diploma, but I did not pursue such a goal.
Time flew by quickly: 2 years and 10 months. The cost of training per year was about 33,000, although the price increased with each course, I remember exactly that the last course increased by as much as 10,000! As a result, 109,000 were paid for the entire period of study, you see, not so much. The diploma gave the right to work not only as a tourism manager, but also in the hotel business, for example. Looking ahead, I will say that the money spent on training was recouped with a large margin.
My first disappointment came during practice. It was necessary to choose a travel company and ask them to "work". Eyes were burning, I wanted to do the real work. Instead of worthwhile tasks, they were asked to print this or that document, distribute leaflets, leaf through the magazine and other meaningless activities. The reality did not live up to expectations at all.
The sustainable development of tourism is considered as a priority area for the World Tourism Organization.
