Event tourism dates back to gladiatorial battles and knightly tournaments, which were attended by thousands of medieval "tourists". Event tourism, which is very popular nowadays, offers many interesting reasons for traveling around the world. Attending a large-scale historical or sports event, at the same time traveling around the country in which it is held, is more interesting than wallowing for days on the beach or making up a program of tourist routes on your own.

Types of event tourism

Event tourism can be divided into 4 basic types - ethnographic, cultural, sports and business.

Events such as:

  • Festivals, film festivals and competitions - flowers, music, gastronomic.
  • Sports events - Olympic Games, auto racing, air races, football championships, motorcycle races, rallies.
  • National Holidays - New Year in Thailand, St. Patrick's Festival in London, Love Parade in Berlin.
  • Concerts of world stars - during world tours.
  • Fashion shows - in France, Italy.
  • Auctions - Sotheby's, Christie's, Drouot in Paris.
  • Exhibitions - automotive, real estate, yachts.
  • Food Festivals - Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, St. Moritz Food Festival, New Orleans FatTuesday.
  • Carnivals - Venetian, Brazilian.

Spectacular event tourism

One of the most festive countries is Italy. In February, Venice hosts the annual costume carnival, which gathers more than half a million travelers from all over the world. Dressed up in the 18th century, the city celebrates ten days - with masquerades, parades, shows, ceremonies. Actions change one after another, and at the end a symbolic effigy is burned. A kind of Shrovetide festivities that are common throughout Europe, including their own unique traditions, for example, in France, with flower battles, or in Spain - egg battles, and in Germany - a witch's carnival.

Attending such an event is not only fun, but also very useful, because traveling around the country is more interesting if you can personally observe the traditions of the people of this country.

Sports event tourism

Sports is one of the most important segments of event tourism. Particularly attractive are the qualifying rounds and the Formula - 1 competition itself; grand prix draws are held quite often - up to 19 times a year. Tour participants make almost round-the-world travels on designated routes. The most ambitious visits are attracted by the World Cup and the Olympic Games. The impressive air races that have recently appeared (since 2003), an analogue of Formula 1 - Red Bull Air Race, have become firmly established in the list of the most interesting events in event tourism.

Domestic tourism

In Russia, event tourism is developing relatively recently and is mainly focused on the domestic market. Lush carnivals and high service are still ahead, but the country has a real residence of Santa Claus, where adults and children come every year. Film festivals in southern cities - "Kinotavr", children's film festivals, the theater festival "Golden Mask" are notable for their scale, brightness and are worthy of a special visit and see the presented festival works.

A good vacation is the desire of most tourists. The rhythm of life today is so difficult and tiring that sometimes it is even difficult to find time for rest. Therefore, most of the people who cannot devote enough time to spend their leisure time do so during the vacation period. Tourists who have already traveled all over the world can hardly be surprised with an ordinary beach vacation or simple sightseeing trips. Therefore, many people give preference to a vacation planned for a specific event, which provides an opportunity to make the vacation bright and unusual. Event tourism: what it is and how to plan it correctly, what are its advantages and which events are very popular - these are the issues that interest tourists to a greater extent.

Features of event recreation

Event tourism began its development more than 45 years ago - in the last century there was a designation that defines a special direction for spending holidays. In fact, event-based recreation began its existence long before that, when knightly fights, gladiatorial competitions, national events with mass celebrations were organized - all this refers to event-related recreation. Moreover, even a public execution is considered event tourism, since in ancient times such a spectacle gathered masses of people.

Gradually over the years, with the development of technological progress, the concept of event recreation has changed significantly. Tourists traveled to other countries and cities to attend holidays and national events, relax and unwind in a relaxed atmosphere. In Russia, event tourism also began its existence in ancient times - since ancient times, mass festivities, ethnic events were organized here, a little later they began to hold demonstrations on May 1. In Russia, tourism was no longer considered a spectacular vacation, but was of a political or religious direction. The purpose of such events was to unite the people, to raise the national spirit.

Today, event tourism also remains at the peak of its popularity. Its main directions are availability and richness. Tourists with great pleasure travel to Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, in a word, to those countries where carnivals, masquerades and popular festivities take place.

The main types and purposes of event recreation

The main goal of tourism is to organize a rich and memorable vacation. When it is not always possible to get to festive events in your country, you can do it almost everywhere abroad.

The specificity is to provide people with the opportunity to visit various exciting events that will lure guests, perhaps some of the events will be informative. Travel agencies offer several options for event tours:

Competitive and musical programs will surprise visitors with an exciting atmosphere and a festive atmosphere, live vocal performances. At such events, guests can enjoy their favorite music in an unusual performance, get acquainted with their like-minded people;

gastronomic events offer their guests to taste all kinds of national dishes and treats, get to know better the local cuisine and its traditions. Very often, eating treats brings a lot of pleasure, in contrast to the taste of foods. By attending such events, tourists will be able to discover the flip side of traditional food. In addition, traditional master classes are held, where you can learn a lot of new and useful things in culinary skills;

national festivities and holidays will be an excellent occasion to get to know the country you are visiting. Thanks to the national culture, it is much easier to understand the traditional values and mentality of the peoples. Such events provide an opportunity to get acquainted with national rituals, myths and legends. From such events, tourists very often bring home various souvenirs and handicrafts as a keepsake;
