Is it worth going to Novosibirsk in winter

The best time to get to know Novosibirsk, if you want to see it in the most comfortable conditions, is the period from late May to early September. But not everyone can choose the right time for a trip, and someone is going to Novosibirsk on a business trip in winter.

The city is located in a dry continental climate affected by the Asian anticyclone. Therefore, the winter here is rather harsh, frosty, with a stable snow cover throughout the season, strong winds and possible snowstorms.

But do not discount winter, especially for those who miss the crunchy snow under their feet! There are many opportunities to spend time interestingly in Novosibirsk: skating rinks will work, you can go downhill and skiing, go to the festival of snow sculptures, and on New Year's holidays, a beautifully decorated Christmas tree will be placed on the main square of the city. There is no need to be afraid of frost, the main thing is to look at the forecast and dress for the season. Remember the favorite saying of Siberians: "A Siberian is not the one who does not freeze, but the one who dresses warmly!"

What to see in Novosibirsk in winter on your own

Siberian winter is a difficult time for sightseeing lovers. At this time, routes between attractions need to be laid so that somewhere you can warm up along the way. Let's try to suggest something to make your trip to winter Novosibirsk comfortable.

Novosibirsk is a rather big city in terms of area. Most of the interesting things are located in its central part, but you still cannot do without the help of public transport.

Let's try to group the sights of Novosibirsk by their location near the nearest metro stations. Let's start with the main square of the city - Lenin Square, the metro station is also called, which has several exits on the square. Let's see what is interesting next to Lenin Square besides the Novosibirsk City Hall. However, the square itself is one of the city's attractions.

The Opera and Ballet Theater is an architectural symbol of the city. This building is unique: with a dome diameter of 60 meters, its thickness is only 8 centimeters! The construction of the theater began in 1931, for various reasons the construction was delayed until 1941. The model of the building in 1937 was exhibited in the Soviet pavilion at the World Exhibition in Paris, where the project was awarded the highest award - the Grand Prix. During the Great Patriotic War, the building housed evacuated exhibits from many museums in the country, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the palaces of Pushkin and Pavlovsk, museums of Smolensk, Novgorod, Sevastopol and others. The theater was opened immediately after the Victory - May 12, 1945.

The Philharmonic Chamber Hall occupies a building known as the Lenin House. It was built in 1925 in the style of constructivism with the money of workers and employees who deducted one day's earnings for the construction. It was supposed to be a memorial house, where they were going to place the library of Lenin's works and works on Leninism, newspaper editorial offices, and a lecture hall. On the facade were the words "Lenin is dead, Leninism is alive" and the dates of his life. The building acquired its present appearance after the reconstruction in 1944.

Pervomaisky square opposite the building of the Novosibirsk mayor's office was laid out in 1932 on the place where the Yarmarkaya square was located before the revolution. Since 2000, this park has been the site of the annual Siberian Snow Sculpture Festival. If you come to the city in January, you will be able to see the works of this festival.

Since 1985, the Museum of Local Lore has occupied the building of the City Trade Building, built in 1908 by the famous Novosibirsk architect A.D. Kryachkov. In the building on the first floor there were retail premises, on the second there were the City Duma and the government, the treasury and the branch of the State Bank.
