How to make your summer vacation in Tuapse pleasant and useful?

Tuapse appeared on the map of Russia in the first half of the 19th century, after signing a peace treaty with the Ottomans, and eventually turned into a major trading port on the Black Sea.

The building of the railway to the city in 1916 and the construction of industrial enterprises formed its industrial appearance. However, the reconstruction of the country's political regime in the 90s prepared for him the future of the Tuapse resort.

The best sights and entertainment in Tuapse

Mount Semashkho is not only an outstanding natural monument in Tuapse, but also an object of important cultural and historical significance for the country. A rich past, magnificent landscapes, a variety of hiking trails - this is what the legendary hill near the resort is famous for.

Where is Mount Semashkho on the map

It is located in the eastern part of the Tuapse region, not far from the Kruglaya (966 m), Kamenistaya (717 m), Indyuk (859 m) and Dva Brata (921 m) mountains. The nearest villages are Anastasievka, Krivenkovskoe and Georgievskoe.

Geography and natural features

Semashkho is the first mountain in the western section of the Main Caucasian Range, which has overcome the 1 km mark. It rises up to 1035 m. Its massif consists of mudstones and liparitic-dacitic porphyries. Tuapse residents and tourists distinguish Bolshaya and Malaya Semashko with a height of 947 m. The first one opens up a stunning circular panorama, the second one - an excellent view to the west, the Tuapse river valley.

The name should not be associated with the name of N. Semashko. It comes from the Adyghe word “Sameshkho”, which means “big heap”. Indeed, both peaks are completely bald, built of heaps of stones and boulders: instead of dense forest groves, rare shrubs grow here, and subalpine meadows are also flooded.

During the Great Patriotic War, the border of the defense of Tuapse passed here. In October 1942, the Nazi invaders were able to break through to Semashkho and the neighboring Dva Brata massif. The 10th Infantry Brigade surrounded the enemy and went on the offensive: bloody battles lasted two weeks before Soviet troops could defeat the Nazis.

In 1982, a monument to the heroes of those battles was erected at the top - a memorial to "Komsomol Fortitude". It rises on stone supports in the form of machine guns, and so-called "anti-tank hedgehogs" are placed around it. However, the whole area around Semashkho breathes with history.

On and around it are scattered many monuments in memory of past battles, soldiers who died in them, war trophies - helmets and weapons. Writer E. Astakhov would later lay down the poem "I was killed near Tuapse ..." and the novel "Violation of the rules" about the events on Semashkho, which tells about the defense of the hero-city.

Climbing the legendary peak is not only done for exploring its landscape, amazing panoramas and active pastime. The conceived trip to Semashkho is a tribute to the memory of the Soviet soldiers who died here. A lot of tourist groups go here for this very reason.

Route to Mount Semashko

And although Semashkho is a rather popular object among tourists, the routes laid along it are absolutely not equipped. There are practically no markings, signs and well-trodden paths. For the hike, you need to have minimal experience in such ascents and the ability to read topographic maps, otherwise, it can even take a whole day. Fortunately, this is the only difficulty that awaits travelers aiming at conquering the attraction: the ascent will be steep, but not difficult, the road does not prepare difficult sections.

Usually a visit to Semashkho is part of a long route, which also includes climbing some of the nearby mountains - Turkey, Two Brothers, Round. The path can start from the village of Anastasievka, the Krivenkovskaya railway station, that is, from any settlement in the vicinity of the peak - both from the side of the Pshenakho River and from Turkey.
