Where the mountaineering school will take place

Sports tourism in our country is still not as developed as in Western countries. Most modern tourists traveling to different countries, getting acquainted with the sights of history, architecture and nature, have absolutely no idea that there is also sports tourism, in which categories are assigned for making difficult hikes.

The sports side of tourism

In sports tourism, the routes that tourists overcome are divided into categories according to their complexity.

There are six categories in total, and even the simplest, the first is considered the norm of the third sports category. For a master of sports, it is necessary to organize and conduct two trips of the fifth category of complexity.

The sixth category lies beyond the limits of sports norms - this is already extreme tourism, the highest complexity of the route. Sports tourism has several types depending on the method of travel along the route: - hiking; - mountain tourism; - water tourism (in which sailing tourism is subdivided); - ski tourism; - cycling tourism; - auto and motorcycle tourism; - speleotourism (conquering caves). In each type of tourism, there are routes of varying difficulty, the first category being movement without special obstacles, and the second and further assumes the presence of obstacles of varying complexity.

The main routes are collected in a reference publication called "Classifier" by tourists, from which you can choose a route of the desired category or roughly estimate the complexity of a route that is not included in the classifier. There are also established standards for distance and duration - but they are of secondary importance: the main thing is overcoming obstacles. On rivers, these are rapids, in mountain tourism, passes, and so on.

Why is the first category, which practically does not provide for any obstacles, is the norm for sports category?

Yes, because this is a fairly serious level of general tourist training: the ability to set up a camp and cook food in the field, confidently own a vehicle and walk a certain distance during the day. And one more point is important in the first category: sports tourism is a collective activity, a group goes on a hike and it should remain a single group all the time.

Beginners usually go to the "one" under the guidance of a more experienced tourist, and during these short days it turns out who is good and comfortable in the group, and who did not manage to get along with their comrades.

Psychological compatibility is a serious matter and it is better to check it at the level of the first category of complexity: for more serious hikes, incompatibility can be tragic.

The leader on the hike is responsible for everything - from preparation, organizational and technical, to the strategy and tactics of the route and overcoming obstacles.
