Our Baikal tour is suitable for photographers and amateur photographers: for those who shoot both with professional equipment and with their smartphones. A photo tour is a journey where people are not in a hurry, a photo tour is a journey for photography. We will have all the conditions to create comfortably and easily, while enjoying the process.

Baikal is a mesmerizing ice pattern and caves, a winter taiga with its inhabitants, bays and hot springs. Here we will plunge into a real fairy tale, as in our favorite cartoons from childhood! We will meet the dawn on the ice, and at night we will shoot the stars. Our guides will teach everyone the basics of photography, as well as tell about the places and traditions of the region. During the trip, we will become a real creative team that inspires and supports each other. Ready for your best winter? Then come with us!

Why Baikal? Firstly, it is one of the greatest lakes on planet Earth: it is the deepest (1642 m) and the oldest (about 25 million years old). In 1996, Baikal was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Secondly, this is a place with amazing energy, which is worth visiting at least once in your life. Thirdly, this is one of the most unusual places where you can relax in winter!

Winter Baikal is about ice. Ice is like space, ice the color of the sky, black, white, blue, green - depends on the angle from which you look at it. With a camera, we will be able to climb into ice grottoes and caves; observe methane bubbles frozen in the ice and even look at pebbles at the bottom - in places where the ice is completely transparent.

By the lake by car. Every year, winter roads are laid on the ice of Lake Baikal for movement by cars. Such roads exist for only 1 month - from mid-February to mid-March, after which it becomes dangerous to move along them by car. Baikal freezes in early to mid-January, then it is gradually covered with snow. The sun and wind are doing their job, and by March the ice is cleared of snow. During the winter, its thickness becomes about one meter, and in bays - up to two, so this ice is suitable for moving by car.

What to shoot on Lake Baikal in winter? Of course, ice - its pattern of cracks, bubbles and chips is unique and unrepeatable. And how beautiful are the caves in ice icicles at sunset, when the ice takes on warm shades!

But ice isn't everything. We will visit a variety of locations and objects and we will have something to capture everywhere. For example, on Olkhon there are horses that roam freely around the island, and we will try to find such a herd in the snowy steppe. And Baikalsk, Khakusy, Davsha and Khuzhir will give us the experience of reportage shooting, where you need to always keep the camera close at hand and anticipate the frame.

Our Baikal photo tour consists of two parts.

The first part is expeditionary. In this part, we explore more than we photograph. We will drive 350 km from Severobaikalsk to the Svyatoy Nos peninsula. We will swim in the hot springs in Khakusy, go skiing in the taiga, visit the sable house and visit the museum in Davsha. We will visit places where there are no tourists, where sables go out to people, and nutcrackers take nuts from their hands!

We will get from Severobaikalsk to Khakus by car or khivus - a hovercraft (depending on the state of the ice). From Khakus to Ust-Barguzin we will drive two UAZ cars - this is connected with safety: when and how to move on the ice is up to the driver. On Lake Baikal, those who know and know how to ride on ice are called ice captains. Note to tourists: when Lake Baikal rises, strong westerly winds blow and hummocks form on the eastern coast - heaps of ice debris. Therefore, the Buryat coast is hummocky.

The second part is Olkhon Island. This is truly the best place on Lake Baikal for shooting ice! In this part of the route, we devote all the time to photography. We shoot in the morning and in the evening, we rest and relax during the day. There will be many travels by car around the island in the hunt for good shots.

Olkhon Island is the largest island on Lake Baikal. Here there are dense forests on the east coast, and harsh marble rocks, and sandy beaches with dunes in the west, and bare steppes. The smell of steppe grasses, warm bays, light groves of pines and larch trees, taiga with a dense windbreak and an amazing relict spruce forest - a witness of the Ice Age. It is not for nothing that this island is considered the very heart of the Siberian Sea - this is what Lake Baikal is called here.

The word "Olkhon" is translated from Buryat in two ways - "oh-khon" can be interpreted as "little forest", "a little wooded", and according to another version the name came from "olkhan" - "dry". But both options reflect the essence - there are sparse forests on the island, but most of it is occupied by steppes. During the year, about 200 mm of precipitation falls here, which is almost a desert for the Siberian climate.

Flora and fauna. Our kayak trip passes through the territory of the Pribaikalsky Natural National Park. The island is rich in birds, of which there are more than fifty species. The forests are inhabited by hares, red foxes, squirrels, ferrets and weasels. There are no large predators on Olkhon, except that wolves come across the ice in winter. In the last century, the fauna of Lake Baikal suffered a lot from humans, and today the situation is being restored - marals and Siberian roe deer have been brought to the island. The island's forests are rich in berries - raspberries, blueberries, black and red currants. And how delicious Olkhon lingonberry is! If you are careful and look below the bushes, you can pick up medicinal herbs - so that in winter, for a cup of herbal tea, you can return to Lake Baikal.

Olkhon is undoubtedly the pearl of Siberia. Well, what are we all about land? After all, we are going on a kayak trip and will spend a lot of time in the literal sense of the word “at Baikal”.

The Small Sea, where we will start rafting, is a good place to learn rowing. The wave is rare here, you can safely paddle, and the winds are predictable. The water here warms up well: it is warm, like in the southern sea. Local Baikal is often called the sea - even if there is no ebb and flow here, and the water is without salt, but otherwise it is a real sea. At Cape Khoboy, a real storm can play out, but we will come to it already experienced, and we will go at dawn, when it is calm and as safe as possible.

Kayaks. For the Siberian Sea, we have prepared comfortable and convenient kayaks Khatanga 3 Sport. These ships are a good compromise between speed, convenience and safety. They are comfortable and stable, it is almost impossible to turn over by accident. Khatangs keep their course well and are easy to control, while in speed they are not much inferior to frame kayaks and kayaks. We are waiting for day trips of 10-25 kilometers, so we recommend this trip for those who are confident in their abilities and are familiar with kayaks.

Kayaking is an opportunity to see caves and rocks from the water. We swim into some grottoes, examine the coast in detail and stop at the parking lots, which can only be approached from the water. On the way there will be many caves, which we will approach by kayak. Baikal seals sometimes emerge right at the boat, cormorants nest on rocky ledges, all this is accessible, again, only from the water. Another cool thing on the kayak is that you can get very close to the seals. You just need to go quietly: you come out from behind the cape, and there on the stones the seals and you slowly paddle up to them. They often do not see you, so there is an opportunity to consider them.

Mysteries and traditions of the island. Not a single place on Lake Baikal has been written as many articles and books as about Olkhon! The island is called the sacred center of the lake, the abode of the Baikal spirits that guard their home. Olkhon is one of the most significant points of the mystical Baikal, here shamanism and Buddhism are intertwined. Shamanka Rock with a through cave, which we will visit, served as a place for shamanic rituals. In general, many of our routes run through sacred places. Here and there - only shrines! And there is no contradiction in this - nature is a shrine. This is the approach that we instructors share. We love cleanliness and primordiality, respect traditions and know how to leave no traces behind. In the last century, the ecology of Lake Baikal suffered a lot, so now we are recreating a respectful and reverent attitude towards our beautiful nature.

History of the region. Olkhon has been inhabited since ancient times. 143 archaeological objects have been discovered on the island - ancient man's cave-sites, rock paintings, ancient settlements and burials. There are ruins of an ancient fortress on Cape Khorgoy, we will go there. The fortress was discovered in 1879 by Ivan Chersky, a researcher of Siberia. By the way, he, like us, traveled a lot around Lake Baikal by boat. According to historians, the creators of the sacral buildings of Olkhon were the Kurykans, an ancient Turkic people who lived in the Baikal region in the 6th-11th centuries.

Russians came here for the first time in the middle of the 17th century. In 1643, the Cossack Kurbat Ivanov with 75 "eager, servicemen and walking people" went along the Sarma River to the shore of the Small Sea and crossed to Olkhon. The Cossacks lost a lot of coins there, which archaeologists still find today. During the Gulag, prisoners were transported to Olkhon. The water around and the impenetrable taiga beyond the lake did not require special protection, and this was the beginning of the Olkhon fish farm for the extraction of the famous Baikal omul. Now local residents are engaged in tourism.

A unique route in terms of saturation, uniting the most picturesque places of Lake Baikal. We will travel from south to west to Olkhon Island, and then we will cross the entire lake on a motor ship to the only peninsula of the lake - Svyatoy Nos. We will ascend to the top of the peninsula, and then we will overtake it in a kayak (in the extended version of the program). One of the best routes on Lake Baikal. Available to every lover of outdoor activities.

Please note that 2 program options are offered, differing in cost and duration (11 and 15 days).

Part of the days - accommodation in tents, part - at recreation centers.

  • participants independently prepare food in turn along the entire route,
  • set up tents and prepare firewood and carry out the transfer of all necessary equipment (including kayaks - when transporting from the car and by car, to the base, to the shore, to the water, etc.).
  • The instructor leads the route, but does not act as a guide. If you want to receive more information about Lake Baikal, then perhaps you should purchase an excursion tour, since in an active tour, the main goal is still to safely and comfortably walk the route from start to finish, as well as the opportunity to visit picturesque places where they never drive excursion groups, to acquire certain skills that may come in handy on further travel. This is what the instructor will try to provide for you, so if you have any questions about the use of equipment or overcoming certain obstacles on the route, immediately contact the instructor.

IMPORTANT! Please be informed that the prefabricated groups include participants of different ages and physical fitness.
