Stavropol Territory: the most beautiful and interesting places

The main natural attractions of Stavropol are known throughout Russia and far beyond its borders. Some of them are also associated with the names of great people and popular literary characters.

Mineral springs in Essentuki

  • Address: city of Essentuki.

Of the numerous sources of the Stavropol Territory, the Essentuki springs are the most famous for the bottled mineral water "Essentuki No. 4" and "Essentuki No. 17". The numbers in the names indicate the numbers of the wells from which the healing moisture is collected. The Essentuki-4 spring is considered the best, its waters are especially rich in minerals.

Salt springs were discovered more than 200 years ago, the discoverers were local Cossacks who brought their horses to the watering hole.

Later, the useful properties of springs were studied by such luminaries of science as F. Haas and A. Nelyubin. In 1839, the first wooden baths appeared, and from the next year they began to drink water to improve the body. Today, salt water is used for the prevention and treatment of diseases of the stomach, kidneys and other organs.

The diversity of the nature of the Stavropol Territory

Stavropol Territory is one of the regions of Russia that are part of the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). In the east, south and south-west, it borders on other subjects that form the North Caucasus Federal District - these are the Dagestan Republic in the east, the Chechen and Kabardino-Balkarian Republics in the south and the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in the south-west. From the west, north and partly in the eastern part, it borders on the subjects of the Southern Federal District: Krasnodar Territory in the west, Rostov Region in the north and the Kalmyk Republic in the east.

The Stavropol region is located in the foothills of the North Caucasus, occupying most of the Stavropol Upland. Of the foothill areas, the region of Mineralnye Vody stands out, where the laccolithic mountains are located, with a height of up to 1400 m. The highest point of the region reaches a height of 1603 m above sea level. The length of the Stavropol Territory from north to south is 285 kilometers, from west to east - 370 kilometers.

The relief of the area often has a decisive influence on all components of the natural complex and forms its basis. So, at the same latitude, in mountainous and flat areas, there can be different climatic conditions, different types of plants can grow and completely different types of animals can be found.

The relief of the Stavropol Territory was formed in antiquity due to the uplift of sections of the earth's crust. The pasture ridge rose first, the Stavropol Upland and the foothills of the Caucasus rose second, and the low-lying plains rose last.

The relief of the Stavropol Territory can still be represented in the form of huge steps leading from top to bottom, from the south, from the Caucasus mountains, to the north, towards the Ciscaucasian plain. There are three such "steps": mountain, with absolute heights of more than 500 meters, elevated, having heights from 200 to 500 meters and low, with absolute heights of 200 meters or less.

As mentioned earlier, the Stavropol Territory is located on the Stavropol Upland of the same name, which occupies the center of the Ciscaucasian plain. In the western, northern and eastern directions, the elevation smoothly passes into lowlands, and in the southern direction it abruptly breaks off into the valleys of the Kuban and Surkul rivers. The southern and central parts of the upland have the highest heights, on these sites are the Nedremennaya, Baba and Strizhament mountains. Of these, the highest point is Strizhament, its height is 831 meters. This is the highest mark of both the Stavropol Upland and, in general, the entire East European Plain.

The Savropolskie heights with elevations of 659 meters are located almost in the center of the hill, the Kholodnaya and Budarka mountains have already lower elevations in height - 601 meters and 476 meters, respectively, followed by the Beshpargin heights, which also have an elevation of 476 meters. In the direction of the meridian, east of the Kalaus River, the Kalausky heights stretched for 140 kilometers, their highest mark is 691 meters. Mount Bryk, the southernmost in the ridge of the Kalusky heights, rises to 688 meters and drops abruptly towards the valleys of the Surkul and Kalaus rivers.

The above-mentioned Pasture Range is part of the Greater Caucasus system. It is divided by river valleys into several smaller ridges: Kabardinsky (1542 meters, its highest mark is 1603 meters), Daryansky (1463 meters) and Borgutansky (1286 meters). The pasture ridge originates south of Essentuki and the village of Bekeshevskaya, from there it begins to rise above the foothill plain. Its characteristic feature is the gentle northern and steep southern slopes.

Part of the region, bounded on one side by the Stavropol Upland, and on the other by the Pasture Range, is geographically already the foothills of the Caucasus. The foothills from the north are bounded by the Kuban-Surkul depression - an area of lower relief, which has a narrow and elongated shape. When moving in a southerly direction, the depression is replaced by piedmont sloping terraced plains, on which there are areas of remnant mountains. On the Mineralovodskaya inclined plain, in the Pyatigorye region, there are sections of isolated igneous mountains - this is its main difference from the adjacent plains. In total, there are 17 such separate outlier mountains, whose bizarre shapes and outlines are reflected in their names - Kokurtly, Beshtau, Ostraya, Dzhutsa, Dagger, Mashuk, Lysaya, Snake, Blunt or Kabanka, Camel, Iron, Sheludivaya, Bull, Yutsa, Razvalka, Golden mound, Medovaya.

Coming to one resort, but getting to four at once? Perhaps this is possible only in the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Pyatigorsk, Essentuki, Zheleznovodsk and Kislovodsk are linked by a common history, a well-developed health resort and a network of roads.

Caucasian Mineral Waters in 2021 is a mineral water for every taste, many colors, neat terrenkur paths, distinctive old buildings that once hosted Lermontov and Pushkin, new high-rise buildings of modern sanatoriums, and around - mountains of unusual origin.

Coronavirus, restrictions, self-isolation - all this has become a great stress for Russians. It's time to take care of your health, and a sanatorium vacation on the Caucasian Mineral Waters in 2021 is best suited.

In the Stavropol Territory, mask mode in public places and social distance are preserved. There is no mass gathering of people, so the risk of contracting coronavirus is low.
