Hiking first aid kit

Hiking first aid kit

What medicines should I take with me on the road?

On all our tours, the instructor always has a standard first aid kit with him. As they say, not to come in handy. And so it turns out: a set of medicines, which successfully bypassed most of Altai behind the instructor's back, goes on a well-deserved rest by the end of the season. And for each summer season, the first-aid kit is completely renewed (with the exception of wrapped elastic bandages).

On the way to Altai, as well as in Gorny Altai itself, pharmacies are not uncommon. However, when collecting for the tour, pay special attention to the complete set of a personal mini-first aid kit for the hike. Especially if you need "rare" and hard-to-get medicines.

As a cheat sheet and for those who go to Altai as savages, we have prepared a standard list of medicines that you can stock up on.

List of medicines in the medicine cabinet: treatment of wounds, sprains, bruises, burns

• Hydrogen peroxide for cleaning and disinfecting wounds. Better to take in tablets, diluting them as needed. In the vial, the drug is very quickly "exhaled"

• Antibacterial spray. They say it is more effective than even His Majesty Alcohol ...

• Iodine. Treat ONLY EDGE wounds! In principle, modern medicine has had time to doubt this drug, therefore, it is included in the list rather as a tribute to traditions. This is clearly not a tool that must be included in the first aid kit

• Levomekol ointment. Anti bactericidal, healing effect. It is applied to any wounds, especially effective in the treatment of festering surfaces.

• Gel Indovazin. Pain reliever, used for sprains, bruises, joint pains

• Finalgon Cream. The indications for use are the same as for "Indovazin", but the principle of action is different - warming up. The main thing is not to overdo it with the dosage, because the hell will begin

• Dimexide solution. Diluted with water 50x50, used for compresses for bruises.

• Dermazin cream. For the treatment of burns

Rural tourism: reality and prospects

Any hike begins with the preparation of equipment. One of the main components of this preparation is collecting the necessary medicines. A first aid kit is a must for a hike, especially if the path lies through the mountains or if children are traveling with you. When you are far from your home, you should definitely have your medications with you, no matter where you go or how long you stay on the hike. What to take in a first aid kit on a hike? Read the article!

Basic principles of forming a first aid kit

The first thing you should pay attention to when forming a first-aid kit is the quality of medicines. This means that all medications must be tested by you earlier for tolerance and effectiveness. Be sure to check the expiration date of all medications. Look at what you put in the medicine cabinet, you should know the properties, dosage and side effects of the medicines. A first aid kit on a hike should not be too heavy in weight. Discard glass containers, if possible, pour the necessary liquids into plastic bottles. They weigh less and are more resistant to impacts.

Travel first aid kit packaging

What packaging requirements are important to adhere to while hiking?

  • Rigidity - the container must be rigid (a plastic box will do). In it, your medicines are not afraid of sunlight and external negative mechanical influences. If you do take a non-rigid first-aid kit on a hike, then pack the glass bottles very carefully and be careful not to crumple them.
  • Tightness - the first aid kit must have a sealed case. Otherwise, in heavy rain or on a roll, you can spoil some medicines. An excellent option is to pack the medicine box in a hermetic bag (tourists, especially water workers often use it). Packing medicines in a trash bag is not the best solution.
  • Shock absorption is an important point. The first aid kit for hiking in the mountains should be covered with a piece of high-quality foam rubber. Then the ampoules will not be afraid of falling from a decent height.
  • Names of drugs - do not take a pack of drugs on a hike, this is extra weight in your backpack. Be sure to duplicate the names of medicines on bottles and blisters where necessary, otherwise confusion may arise in a critical moment.

Make a Drug List!

Be sure to make a clear and concise list of what is in your pharmacy. Place the sheet in a box or bag on top of all funds. Next to each medicine, write the expiration date, symptoms of administration and the concentration of the medicine. This will greatly help those who have not encountered one or another medical problem (we are, of course, talking about a group first aid kit). By the way, if you still decide not to give up glass containers, then glue it with a plaster. If the medicine breaks, all the glass will be on the plaster, and not scattered around the first aid kit and backpack.

Individual hiking first aid kit

An individual first aid kit is the list of drugs that every tourist of the group should have with him. Each person must adjust its composition for himself. That is, if you are allergic, take antihistamines with you, heart medications, and so on. A first aid kit for a hike, the composition of which is not individualized for you, will not work! An individual set should always be available in an accessible place. By the way, if you are traveling alone, then you will not have a group set. In this case, expand the composition of your personal first aid kit.

So, the personal first-aid kit will include:

  • Remedies for your chronic diseases.
  • Remedies for a heart attack ("Validol", "Nitroglycerin").
  • Allergy remedies.
  • Tourniquet and plaster.
  • Anesthetic (for example, "Analgin").
  • Antipyretic (for example, "Aspirin").
  • Antibiotics.
  • Eye drops ("Albucid", "Levomycetin").
  • Means for burns "Panthenol".
  • Remedy for bowel disorders ("Loperamide") and activated charcoal.
  • Hydrogen peroxide.
  • "Nosh-pa".
  • "Yodantipirin" for the prevention of encephalitis.
  • "Doxycycline" (used in case of Lyme disease).

Continuing the series of articles about the most essential tourist equipment, let's talk about medicine, or rather about a first aid kit. So human nature is arranged that many of us do not assume emergencies and incidents (or prefer not to think about it) and therefore the maximum that we take with them to nature is brilliant green and activated carbon. Everyone knows that such frivolity is fraught with unpleasant consequences, nevertheless, many do not care about medical equipment.

There are a huge number of classifications of first-aid kits, and even the first-aid kits for tourists are divided by some authors and physicians into a dozen categories and subcategories, giving a very reasonable explanation. But do we need this information in such a volume? Every time, planning to travel outside the city, re-read a huge list of medicines, in an attempt to understand what will come in handy this time? Let's try to make life easier for you and yourself by citing as an example only two universal types of medical equipment for a hike. But the very questions that we mentioned earlier will help determine the type of first aid kit you need.

Small first aid kit

What's included:

Painkillers: 1. Analgin, Citramon and other pain relievers in tablets or powder. Determine the level of strength of the action yourself. It can be Ketanov in tablets, and Nurafen, and Pentalgin, in general, at your discretion. A fairly small amount of 2 drugs, in case the person in need is immune to 1.

Gastrointestinal: 1. No-shpa (from spasms, sharp pains); 2. Activated carbon (good in different situations: poisoning, diarrhea, overeating, etc.); 3. Imodium (antidiarrheal).

Bandaging: 1. Sterile bandage (for dressing) 2. Elastic bandage (to fix the dressing, damaged joints) 3. Means for disinfection and treatment of open wounds (cuts, punctures, abrasions and others): brilliant green, iodine, hydrogen peroxide, Miramistin (aka Chlorhexidine). Now in pharmacies they sell disinfectant ointments, colorless and odorless. If possible, replace brilliant green and iodine with them. ... Plaster (for all occasions).

From burns: 1. Panthenol, or similar burns.

Anti-allergic: 1. In general cases: Claritin, Suprostin. If you have pronounced allergic reactions, then we take with us those drugs that you use in everyday life. Even if you do not have allergies, remember that in special conditions of stay it can manifest itself, do not neglect this fact.

Cardiovascular: 1. Validol, Valocordin (just in case) People with cardiovascular disorders take with them the drugs prescribed by their doctor.

When do we take a small first aid kit:

1. We set off not far from settlements (less than 4 hours on foot).

2. We leave for 24 hours or less.

Cycling travel is gaining more and more popularity among people of all ages every year. But a trip to nature far from civilization can turn into many unpredictable situations, so it is important to provide all the details. In addition to the technical preparation of the bike, clothing, tools and numerous camping items, you must also take care of the first aid kit.

A first aid kit for a bicycle trip must contain a mandatory minimum of medicines and first aid items. Let's discuss possible travel situations and make a list of medications without which it is better not to go on a bike trip. But first, let's look at how it is recommended to collect a first aid kit.

What should be a first aid kit?

Traveling, and even more so by bicycle, is always fraught with potential dangers. They are associated with unexpected falls or bumps. In this regard, it is necessary to take care of the safety of medicines inside the first-aid kit.

The container for the first aid kit must be solid. It should not bend easily so that the glass bubbles inside do not break. The box should be tight, but not heavy, since every kilogram on the hike is a serious burden.

The first aid kit should be made of waterproof material or placed in a waterproof case.

Since certain drugs deteriorate due to moisture ingress, the contents must be protected from external factors.

You should also consider the choice of the color of the first aid kit. It is better to use a bright look to make it easier to find it in your bag or use it at night. Although this criterion is not extremely important.

All items inside must be tightly packed and not roll when shaken. The free space can be filled with cotton wool or other soft material. It is also recommended to use soft pads between glass bubbles, for example, brilliant green or iodine.

They will prevent glass from breaking. It is also worth placing soft material on the inside of the walls of the first aid kit. The ideal test for your first aid kit to be cycling is a simple experiment.

Raise her to the height of your height and drop the first aid kit down. If nothing breaks after the fall, feel free to take the first aid kit on a hike.
