How to choose a school in Thailand; where to go to study

Thailand or ancient Siam is the only country in Southeast Asia whose identity has not been affected by any colonial influences.

It is a warm and hospitable land of independent, gentle and friendly people. Love and respect is the religion of Thais.

Families with kids have their own special reasons to love Thailand. They know that there are many hotels here with different service options for guests with children. Thoughtful comfortable rest awaits kids near playgrounds, small pools, slides, where both crumbs and teenagers will not get bored.

Adults can take a break from their child, leaving him under the supervision of a nanny in a special children's club. There are also parks-hotels, where at the service of young guests there are complexes of attractions, for older children - tennis courts, mini-water parks. The beaches offer whole and sliced fruits, colorful ice cream, thick smoothies and tropical fruit cocktails.

Thailand has "appropriated" a wonderful mild climate that attracts tourists, and they move from cold wet countries almost to the equator, taking with them their small travelers in diapers. So whoever has the freedom to tumble on the gentle sandy beaches and sit with their ass in the warm silky foam of the surf, trying to catch its rainbow bubbles.

For children of any age in Thailand, in general, there is a lot of interesting and informative things. The nature is wonderful, botanical parks of stunning beauty. And here it is easy to find snake "hissing" farms, a bunch of zoos, pig races, crocodile performances, from which children and adults scream in unison with delight.

Interestingly, the flight to Thailand is much easier for the kids to bear for adults. The smallest ones often sleep during the entire flight, waking up for a while - to have a snack.

The visa-free regime allows you to organize a vacation with children much cheaper and quickly move with them from a snowdrift or autumn puddle to hot sand.

For those who go to Thailand not on vacation, but for temporary residence, the question of where to attach young offspring during the working day is far from idle. And also are the kindergartens in Pattaya, for example, capable of providing a sufficient level of comfort and safety for the child, and how high are the qualifications of the educators - will they be able to develop his abilities? In this article, you will find all the necessary answers to the questions listed above.

You can declare with responsibility that any kindergarten in Pattaya provides services at a very high level, and it will not be difficult to find a kindergarten in this resort city. This is a general rule for those areas of Thailand where many foreigners live temporarily or permanently - tourists or those who have formalized labor relations with private companies, municipalities. At the same time, there are some national peculiarities in the organization of the work of kindergartens. For example, they can be divided into several categories:

  • Municipal institutions. They can be visited by both local kids and offspring of visitors. The educational process is conducted by Thai teachers according to internal rules, based on local customs and mentality.
  • International establishments. All are accepted, but classes are held in English, and European ones are taken as a model of social behavior.
  • Russian-speaking kindergartens. The teaching staff are exclusively from Russia, the Thais are only servicemen.

Features of Pattaya kindergartens

Kindergartens in Pattaya, like ours, are divided into age groups. The youngest accepts children from one and a half years old, but they can be left in the care of teachers only until noon. International and Russian-speaking preschool institutions can work with children from two to three years old. But for municipal kindergartens, the general rule is the admission of pupils from the age of two.

Registration of a child in a kindergarten is associated with much less difficulties than in Russia. For example, you will not be required to show your vaccination card. In addition, you can pay for the transfer service - at the appointed time, a bus will drive up to your house, which will pick up and take your son home. If it is expensive or extreme for you, bring it yourself.

For everyone attending Russian-speaking kindergartens, there are indulgences in the way of eating. You will be allowed to bring your own food or order a personalized menu. Although this is unnecessary trouble: in all types of kindergartens, food is surprisingly tasty and varied. At the same time, children are served dishes with a minimum amount of spices.

Cost of kindergarten in Pattaya

Pattaya kindergartens with local staff are relatively inexpensive. A month's visit will cost from 3 to 5 thousand baht. If the teacher knows English and is assisted by immigrants from the Philippines or local Thai women with a good level of education, then the cost will be twice as high. It is worth considering additional costs - be sure to have two sets of uniforms, sportswear. Meals, as well as transfer from home to kindergarten and back, are paid separately.

Principles for Child Development

How to plan your winter trip to Thailand

Spending the winter in a warm area is a normal desire of a person living in temperate or, even more so, in northern latitudes. Wintering in Thailand entered the practice of our compatriots about twenty years ago. Often they did this: they rented an apartment in their homeland, and lived on the money at sea. Someone who was bored even took a job.

The climatic advantages of holding the Eurasian winter in Thailand are obvious:

  • air + 30 ° C and above;
  • sea water + 28 ° C;
  • from December to April - almost no rains.

Where to winter

Thailand can be conventionally divided into three parts:

  • southern (resort areas of the Malacca Peninsula);
  • central (Bangkok, Pattaya);
  • northern (Chiang Mai).

Which part to choose for a long stay, everyone decides for himself, depending on what he expects to receive. In the southern part of Thailand, Phuket, Samui or the country's oldest resort, Hua Hin, are usually chosen for wintering. These options are suitable for those who need a 24/7 beach and sea. Features of the resort area in winter:

  • there is a tourism business, but little real Thailand;
  • a lot of tourists;
  • you need to rent a house long before the start of the season;
  • is expensive.

In the resort area it is customary to live in houses. Rent per month - from $ 300.

If we talk about the central part, then Pattaya is comparable to the southern resort cities: food and restaurants here will cost a little cheaper than, say, in Phuket, but housing is closer to the capital price. Bangkok, most likely, will not be very convenient for long stays.

Firstly, this is a huge metropolis, a stone jungle in the tropics. Secondly, it is the most expensive city in Thailand in terms of rental housing, food, and travel. A two-room apartment (or one-bedroom) will cost from $ 500 per month.

Great advantage of the northern part: few tourists, but a lot of Thailand. If you do not need the sea and fuss, and you want to buy vegetables, fruits and other products one and a half to two times cheaper than in the south, then phlegmatic Chiang Mai is what you need. In addition, this is the most inexpensive housing: a two-room apartment in the city center can be rented for $ 150- $ 200 per month.

What schools are there in Thailand, how to distinguish an international school from a Thai school with an English-speaking program and what documents are needed for admission - expatriate advice from personal experience

Natalya Orlova has been living in Thailand for 4 years, has two daughters, 6 and 4 years old: my husband and I decided for ourselves long ago that we want to give our children an international education. First the school, then the university. And in order for children to have the opportunity to choose any university in the world, any specialty, it is important to lay the foundation in the school.

Therefore, I began to study the issue of an international school in Thailand: how the education system in the country works, how to choose the right school, what documents are needed, how to distinguish an international school from a Thai school with an English-language program. I am ready to share my personal experience with your readers and talk about international schools in Pattaya, Koh Samui and Phuket. And, of course, I will share my advice on which school in Thailand is better to choose.

What schools are there in Thailand

Public Thai schools - teaching in such schools is conducted in the Thai language, the emphasis is on the study of the basic sciences (language, mathematics, science), as well as a lot of attention is paid to religious and cultural education. In schools, it is mandatory to wear a uniform, teachers are often quite strict and can use physical punishment. Education is free, Thai citizens and children who have one parent who are Thai citizens can study. Sometimes children of foreigners are taken to school.

Private schools with Thai, English, American, Chinese and other educational programs. Here it is necessary to highlight paid and free schools (most often free schools are schools affiliated with religious organizations - Christian, Muslim, and so on and charitable foundations); Thai (with Thai and English-language programs) and international schools (certified in the international education system, accredited by associations of international schools), as well as other national schools (Chinese and Singaporean, for example).

The cost of training in a Thai private school starts from 30 thousand baht per year, in an international one from 200 thousand per year for the lower grades - the older, the higher the price. A significant advantage of teaching children in an international school is the fact that the child will be able to continue learning according to the same program (for example, IB) in any other country and from the same "place" - the program is standardized and in every corner of the planet children study according to the same program ( the only difference is in additional subjects, which are compulsory in the country where the school is located. In Thailand, for example, these are Thai language lessons)

Russian schools. There are Russian educational centers in Pattaya, Samui and Phuket, but only a secondary school at the Russian Embassy in Bangkok has accreditation from the Russian Ministry of Education. Pupils of grades 1-9 can either attend an educational institution or undergo external training. You can pass the exam and get about secondary (complete) education at the school at the Russian Embassy in Laos.

“Our” person, who grew up in the days of state educational institutions, when lyceums, gymnasiums, even private ones, are strictly controlled by the Ministry of Education, has a very difficult time abroad, where the rules of commerce and hard business are in force, and an organization with the name "School" may not be like that at all. So:

Every school in Thailand, regardless of whether it is public or commercial (private), Thai or with another educational program (Chinese, German, French, English, international) must have an appropriate license, be registered in an analogue the Russian district education department and be controlled by either the Ministry of Education (Thai school) or ONESQA (the organization for certification and quality control of international schools - any school that teaches in a non-Thai program and is certified in it).

Therefore, at the school we ask for a license, we will screen it and then ask someone who knows Thai to translate it. Too lazy to translate? Simple verification: only a school with a license registered in the district is eligible to issue Non-ED visas to students. If you are told that a school with a non-Thai program cannot get a visa, they almost certainly have a different type of license - most often a la educational center. It's like going to a plastic surgeon for a breast augmentation operation, who has a license as a simple cosmetologist. I think you got the analogy?

"Is it worth going to Thailand with a child?" - the parents ask the question and they themselves answer it: “Of course! There is also sea, sun, fresh cheap fruits, shabby dogs on the streets, a swimming pool, bounty beaches - beauty! And most importantly - inexpensive! " So, dear readers: this is the wrong answer to the question of whether it is worth going to Thailand with a child. Let's explain with the example of Pattaya.

Surprises will not keep you waiting

The last straw in my cup of observations of what it is like for Russians to relax in Pattaya with children was the message of a tourist Natalia, who lived at the Jomtien Best Residence: “My daughter, when she looked around, burst into tears and very, very was upset". To be honest: we immediately guessed what was the matter and where our tourists were vacationing before. But still they asked why. "Near the hotel right at the entrance ... girls of easy virtue (((She just compares with Turkey," Natalia replied.

And this is in Jomtien! The very Russian and, I'm not afraid of the word, the family area of Pattaya. Yes Jomtien compared to the north or the city center - just ... just ... I wanted to write "kindergarten", but the keyboard suddenly stopped working.

Remember two things

So, is it worth going to Thailand with a child? Before we start discussing this issue, I will remind you of two things.

First, there is no recommendation that suits everyone. What is good for one child will turn a vacation into a nightmare for another. Check out our observations and "estimate" them on your child: will these disadvantages bring you a lot of trouble or will you not even feel them? After all, in the end, the final answer, whether it is worth going to Thailand with a child, is yours.

Secondly, we are talking about recommendations for tourists, not winterers and moving people. For this category of citizens, the reasoning on the topic of whether it is worth going to Thailand with a child is completely different.

Disadvantages of vacation in Thailand with a child on the example of Pattaya

We have put together our observations of the life of tourists with children in Pattaya. We have chosen Pattaya as the most popular Thai resort among Russians. There are no big differences between Phuket and Pattaya, in the light of discussions about whether it is worth going to Thailand with children. Despite the fact that the concept of "child" stretches from 0 to 15 years old, parents of all children are united by the fact that they must adjust their leave depending on the needs of the child. Let's go.

1. In Pattaya, there are practically no city parks and recreation areas where you can take a walk with children. For parents and children, there are beaches, embankments, markets, shopping centers for promenades. Everything would be fine if it were not for point number 9, which you will meet on every such walk.

The Pratumnak Hill Park is perhaps the largest in Pattaya. And then there is no entertainment for children - only jogging tracks and a temple. In addition, it is problematic to get there on foot or by public transport.
