Since you have a night train ride, prepare for it in advance by explaining the rules of conduct on trains to the children. This is an important point in children's tours. And do not forget about food, children are constantly hungry on trips.
Group meeting. Breakfast in the city cafe

During the excursion, you will learn about the famous people of Nizhny Novgorod. The historic district of Zapochainya is an old merchant town on Ilinskaya Gora, the birthplace of the mechanic Kulibin, a bizarre mixture of all architectural styles from the 17th century to the present day. All the most amazing and mysterious things that happened in Nizhny Novgorod took place here. Rozhdestvenskaya street.
The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin (walking tour) is a mighty ancient fortress, the heart of Nizhny Novgorod, the final resting place of Kozma Minin. From the height of the Kremlin Hill, the most beautiful views of the confluence of the Volga and Oka and the forest Trans-Volga open up. The incredible architecture of the Kremlin, located on a steep slope, suggests that the legend of Leonardo da Vinci's participation in the construction is not such an absurdity.
Lunch at the city cafe.
"Are we really going to spend the whole summer at home like this?" Not that children are literally imprisoned within the walls of an apartment. But they are unhappy that no long journeys can be planned this year.
“Interesting doesn't mean far! Let's look for something nearby, ”the husband promised the children. And we sat down at the map with him in search of unusual places, trips to which can be compared with the most exciting journey.
Oddly enough, the ancient Makaryevsky monastery, founded at the beginning of the 15th century by the Monk Makarii Zheltovodsky and Unzhensky, attracts fewer tourists than other monasteries in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Meanwhile, a trip there can become an event that will be remembered for a lifetime.
The medieval fortress stands at the confluence of three rivers - the Volga, Kerzhenets and Sundovik. From its walls, a view of the expanse of water opens up, merging with the endless sky, so bottomless that it is impossible to contain it. It is impossible to fully comprehend the entire depth of the personality of St. Macarius, whose monument is erected in the village next to the monastery. Here you just want to be saturated with the atmosphere, wander inside the monastery walls and walk around the monastery, peer into every stone and admire the swallows flashing in the sky.
In the summer, the Trinity Cathedral is opened - the main temple of the monastery, where frescoes of extraordinary beauty have been preserved. Here you seem to fall into another dimension, and it seems that time itself flows in a different way. However, this is not for long, because everything here is filled with life: goats walking around the neighborhood can climb into the car, on the river bank it is easy to be surrounded by flocks of geese.
By the way, not far from the monastery there is an ostrich farm, where, in addition to ostriches of different breeds and ages, you can get acquainted with many species of domestic birds - from chickens to peacocks.
A separate adventure can be a ferry trip to the nearby ancient town of Lyskovo, where you can also organize an interesting walk. For example, Olenya Gora is located on the outskirts of the city. In ancient times, there was a fortress here, and now only a rampart of very unusual shapes remains of it. A beautiful view opens from the top of the mountain, and at the foot of the mountain there is a spring, which the locals consider to be healing.
You can walk in the surrounding forests, they are rich in mushrooms and berries. And on the way back, why not swim in Kerzhenets? Or even stay here for a few days, pitching tents right on the shore.
The Nizhny Novgorod north is very vast, but not too explored by tourists. This is, of course, a big omission.
