History [edit]

In the past times, the place where the city is located, was considered impassable due to thick forests and swamps. In the sources of the XVII-XIX centuries, it was called the Shanovsky (disabled, sobic) empty, the name of which, according to one of the versions, comes from the anthroponym, the male soban personal name (found in the sources from the XV century), and on the other - from the words "special", "Special" (in the meaning "separate") [3].

The prospects for the development of these territories opened in the middle of the XIX century, after the Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod railway was held in the current city in four rooms.
