History of tourism development in the Chelyabinsk region

The Chelyabinsk region was a part of many all-Union routes and received tourists from Georgia, Krasnodar, Crimea, Siberia, thanks to which the existing material base was improved and new tourist facilities were built. With the launch of the 55th all-Union tourist route "Across the South Urals", the Ilmenskaya tourist center - Chelyabinsk, tourism has acquired a global character.

In the Chelyabinsk region, the concept of "health trains" was first tested, which departed on weekends first from the Chelyabinsk-Glavny station, and then from Kopeysk, Korkino, Magnitogorsk. In the early 1970s, this form of recreation began to be used in other regions of the USSR.

In the first half of the 1970s, the number of tourists at the tourist centers of the Chelyabinsk region more than doubled. The flow of tourists on weekend routes, trains and planes has grown 22 times. 18 tourist trains from the South Urals ply the Caucasus, the Baltic States, Transcarpathia, and Central Asia.

Since 1973, new all-Union routes began to operate, starting in Chelyabinsk. One of the routes included a 13-day hike in the Urals and passed through the lakes Elovoe, Kisegach, Zyuratkul, Turgoyak, Taganai ridge. Another route passed from Chelyabinsk to the Ilmenskaya tourist center, then to Sverdlovsk, then to Kurgan and the Trans-Urals.

In the early 1980s, there were 17 planned routes with a duration of three days and more. Additionally, the guides of the Chelyabinsk region have developed 10 new routes in Chelyabinsk, including excursions by trolleybus. Half of the routes were designed for children and adolescents.

The regional tourism federation, which worked under the regional council of trade unions, included 15 tourist tourist clubs and 686 tourism sections with physical education teams in various educational institutions, industrial enterprises, etc. The federation held competitions in various types tourism, as well as district, city and regional gatherings. More than 60,000 amateur routes have been covered. In the first half of the 1980s in the Chelyabinsk region, 12,000 tourists and 700 sports tourism judges were trained, 132 people received the USSR Tourist badge.

Festival "My White House"

When: May 18

Venue: Kyshtym City

The name has nothing to do with the residence of Donald Trump. The Demidovs' estate, nicknamed the White House, is the only surviving palace in the South Urals. The estate is considered the main tourist attraction in Kyshtym, it is more than 260 years old. The White House was built by Nikita Demidov from a famous family of industrialists.

The festival will consist of a daytime and an evening program. In the afternoon, the organizers will resume the Soviet urban tradition: after a long break, a boat rental will start operating on the pond. And with the onset of dusk, guests will go with flashlights to the evening quest in the center and will launch boats.

The Flame of Arkaim Historical Reenactment Festival

When: June 8

Venue: Bredinsky district

The ancient city of Arkaim appeared before our era. It is located in the Bredinsky district, 300 km from Chelyabinsk. Archaeologists discovered this place in 1987. The settlement was surrounded by walls made of mud bricks. The inhabitants managed to build a water supply and sewerage system here. It is believed that people left these places after the city was completely burned out. Scientists have found burials of humans and animals, arrowheads, tools and anvils here.

The Flame of Arkaim Festival is held every summer. Tourists will see archery tournaments, full-contact combat of nomads in armor and will be able to learn the most ancient crafts.
