Sochi: the first year-round tourist season after the Olympics

Tourism in Sochi: features of recreation

MOSCOW, February 6 - RIA Novosti, Irina Nekhoroshkina. The past Olympics left Big Sochi with a unique legacy, turning this area into the first year-round resort in Russia. After the end of the Games, a full-fledged summer season has passed, and the winter season is also coming to an end - it is time to evaluate how the former capital of the Olympic Games copes with tourist flows and what prospects it is guided by in the future.

For Sochi, the past year turned out to be not only a start to the beginning of a new eventful life, but a serious test of resistance to tourist flows associated with it. During this calendar period, the city hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Formula 1 races. In addition, more than 100 events of various scales were held - a sailing regatta, an ice show by Ilya Averbukh, a match for the title of world chess champion, the first international tourism forum, various international sports competitions, mass festivals and shows.

Statistics show that before the Olympics, Greater Sochi was visited by about 3.5 million tourists a year, but according to the most recent estimates, the resort closed the calendar segment of 2014 with an indicator of more than 5 million guests, although initially it was expected to meet only 4 million people.

Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov is confident that seasonal tourist flows should be counted separately from major events such as the Olympic Games. In his opinion, it is not worth combining ordinary vacationers and Olympic fans, since more than a million people visited the city during the Olympics alone, but this is a one-time indicator. Based on the average annual data on the occupancy of Sochi hotels and resorts, Pakhomov concluded that the tourist flow to the Olympic capital in 2014 increased by 30% compared to the previous year.

The modern infrastructure in Sochi allows hosting not only sports and business events on this land, but also mass festivals.

It is expected that in 2015 the popular song contest "New Wave" will move to this Krasnodar resort after it was canceled in the Latvian Jurmala. You don't need to be a visionary to assume that such spectacular events will be an excellent reason to attract a huge number of fans of the modern stage as tourists.

Before the start of the big Olympic construction, the city had 27 thousand accommodation places within a radius of 50 kilometers from Sochi, including hotels, boarding houses, sanatoriums and so on. Another 24 thousand new units were commissioned for the world sports festival. Considering that new hotel structures are being built and reconstructed in the Greater Sochi region, it can be said that the number of rooms in the post-Olympic cluster has almost doubled.

Before the beginning of the winter season, the mayor of the city, based on the occupancy of hotels, noted only a 30% increase in tourist traffic. However, after assessing the real demand for Olympic ski resorts in the 2014-2015 season, the mayor began to talk about one hundred percent hotel occupancy as a fact. Already in October last year, the entire hotel room stock in Krasnaya Polyana was bought out until the end of January. Sochi's 2014-2015 winter season is expected to close, surpassing the one million holiday mark.

Horst Schulze, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Capella Hotel Group LLC, spoke very highly of the prospects for the development of the hotel business in Sochi. Explaining why the holding opened its first hotels in Russia in Sochi, the legend of the hotel business expressed his forecast that the situation in Sochi would change very quickly, and Sochi's reserve was far from exhausted. Schulze is sure that soon this direction will become not only local, but also global, as it will compete in tourist attraction not only within Russia, but also in the world.

Obviously, demand creates supply. And from this point of view, Sochi at the beginning of 2015 did not perform in the most favorable light against the background of other regions of the country. While, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, prices for Russian hotels in January 2015 decreased by an average of 8% compared to December 2014 and showed an average room rate of 4.7 thousand rubles per day, Sochi "pleased" its guests with an increase in accommodation rates by 15% at an average price of 4.9 thousand rubles.

All three resorts of Krasnaya Polyana are good in their own way: "Rosa Khutor" attracts skiers by the fact that you can see the sea from the highest point there, "Gornaya Karusel" is famous for its comfortable apartments and the proximity of a shopping center, and "Laura" - breathtaking views of the neighboring ridge and convenient logistics. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, but a common complaint about these ski areas is the lack of a single ski pass that opens access to all the lifts of Krasnaya Polyana.

The head of the department for the development of mountain climatic resorts of the Ministry of Tourism of the Krasnodar Territory Dmitry Galenko explained this by the fact that in order to introduce a single ski pass, it is necessary to bring the technical capabilities of ski centers to the same denominator. The difficulty lies in the fact that each resort has different technical equipment, software, turnstiles. To organize everything, additional costs will be required.

Recently, tourism in Russia is experiencing another rise for various reasons. In any case, this has a positive effect on the development of resorts and, as a consequence, the construction of new infrastructure. If we take into account the Krasnodar Territory, then it has always been in high demand among Russians and citizens of neighboring states, despite the high prices. And after the Olympics in 2014, interest in Sochi increased many times over.

Tourism in the Krasnodar Territory

First of all, I would like to note that tourism in the Krasnodar Territory can be very diverse and will suit different categories of citizens. Here, every tourist will find something to do and relax not only in body but also in soul. So, if you have enough money, you will certainly be interested in luxury hotels, expensive restaurants, nightclubs and other entertainment venues. Regardless of the level of income, in the winter season it is worth visiting Krasnaya Polyana to go skiing, snowboarding, sleighing and other equipment.

In the summer season, the tourist program looks more intense. Firstly, you can go on small tours to see the sights of the Krasnodar Territory. South of Russia offers to get acquainted with the unique nature, numerous rivers, waterfalls and mountains. Of course, we must not forget about the coast, where most of the tourists are accommodated. It is also recommended to visit the Galaxy Water Park. You can read more about it on the page . ourister. u/world/europe/russia/city/sochi/parks_ent/24622. There are a lot of similar establishments in Sochi, so you definitely won't be bored.

What else to do?

Among other things, you can visit a local wine tasting, see how people grow grapes, collect honey and other products. Here you can also buy useful mountain herbs that will save you from many diseases at home. If you do not sit in a hotel room and look at the numerous posters, you will find many tempting offers. In summer, concerts are often held, which are attended by the most famous actors, singers and other artists.

Traveling around the world, especially to your native land, is a lot of fun. Tourists do not encounter misunderstandings, they do not need to behave carefully, fearing that they will break another law, and it is easier to find new acquaintances here.
