Business ethics: what it is and why it is needed

Features of Russian business etiquette

Defining Business Ethics

Ethics of business communication is a number of norms and rules that govern the behavior of each person in the process of carrying out their work. This should include both clearly defined rules and unspoken ones. What kind of norms exist in a particular organization depends on many nuances, including:

  • Cultural traditions of the state where the company is located;
  • Features of the mentality of society;
  • Specific principles and norms of communication that are inherent in this professional circle of persons.

Why do you need to know and adhere to business ethics?

  • to achieve the set goals,
  • to build a successful business,
  • career advancement.

Without her, business communication becomes completely messy. Ethics of business communication is necessary not only for communication between company employees, but also for negotiating with representatives of other organizations, Clients, etc.

What is business communication like?

Norms and standards in accordance with which business communication proceeds can be conditionally divided into two groups:

  • Each person has their own code of ethics since childhood;
  • The norms and rules inherent in the organization where the person works, the professional code of ethics.

All business communication can be roughly divided into two categories:

  • Direct - direct communication between one or more people;
  • Indirect - carried out at a distance - using a telephone, the Internet, etc.

The first is much more effective, and the most difficult type of business communication is considered to be a telephone conversation.

It is important to follow the rules of conduct both in public life and in the business environment, so as not to find yourself in an uncomfortable position. The formation of a negative image in the field of business threatens with losses, therefore it is necessary to know business etiquette and adhere to its basic principles.

Business etiquette in Russia

Representatives of different nationalities live on the territory of the Russian Federation, each of which has inherent behavioral norms. However, they may differ depending on the region of residence. There is no such thing as a generally accepted professional business etiquette in Russia. But in any situation, it is customary to be polite, tactful, and benevolent.

Due to the fact that Russian businessmen have to communicate with domestic and foreign partners, specific features of business ethics have been formed:

  • The interlocutor is addressed to "you", by name and patronymic.
  • The meeting starts and ends with handshakes. But if a large number of people are present at the meeting, then such a gesture will be inappropriate.
  • A woman has the same rights as men. It is not gender that is important, but the position held.
  • Organization of a buffet table in the office or a business dinner in a restaurant. Excursions to the sights of the city, souvenirs for memory.

Comparison with other countries

Hardworking, punctual, rational and organized Germans behave in a formal and reserved manner, so they can seem unfriendly. When meeting, it is customary for them to shake hands and exchange business cards.

The Germans demand from partners strict compliance with obligations, violation of which is fraught with fines. Working with a German customer, you must provide guarantees for your products. After dinner at the restaurant, each party pays its own bill.

Restrained, laconic and fair Englishmen rely on honesty in partnerships. You cannot discuss the personal life of business partners with an Englishman.

All traditions and formalities are respected in England. Without permission, a person cannot be addressed by name.

In the official environment, addresses are used - miss, mrs, mr. Before the meeting, you should familiarize yourself with the titles and ranks of the kingdom.
