Originally, all the ingredients of the famous Greek salad were simply served whole in one plate, and a decent chunk of feta cheese, olive oil and bread were offered separately. If you want to get the same taste at home, you will have to spend time buying food: village tomatoes with "sugar" pulp, small crunchy cucumbers, large juicy olives, tender feta cheese, freshly picked sprigs of oregano and olive oil, preferably Greek. Coarsely chop vegetables and cheese, throw in a handful of olives, sprinkle with wine vinegar or lemon juice, pour with oil, taste and mentally transfer ourselves from the bustling city to the sun-drenched seaside.
Despite the huge variety of vegetables (the most common among them are eggplants, artichokes, tomatoes, pumpkin, onions, bell peppers and green beans), the Greeks also have great respect for a hearty meal - meat or fish.
