Unconditional freshness, amazing aroma, rich taste - this is how you can briefly describe the cuisine of forever young beautiful Greece.
Greek cuisine has very deep historical roots: it was here that the first cookbook was published - in 330 BC. e.! The main products of Greek cuisine - bread, wine and olives - form its basis to this day. After relaxing on the beach, do not forget to visit cozy restaurants and taste the country!
Originally, all the ingredients of the famous Greek salad were simply served whole in one plate, and a decent chunk of feta cheese, olive oil and bread were offered separately. If you want to get the same taste at home, you will have to spend time buying food: village tomatoes with "sugar" pulp, small crunchy cucumbers, large juicy olives, tender feta cheese, freshly picked sprigs of oregano and olive oil, preferably Greek. Coarsely chop vegetables and cheese, throw in a handful of olives, sprinkle with wine vinegar or lemon juice, pour with oil, taste and mentally transfer ourselves from the bustling city to the sun-drenched seaside.
Despite the huge variety of vegetables (the most common among them are eggplants, artichokes, tomatoes, pumpkin, onions, bell peppers and green beans), the Greeks also have great respect for a hearty meal - meat or fish. Try grilled lamb ribs, souvlaki (analogue of barbecue) and small suzukakya cutlets - unusually fragrant thanks to the spices. As for the herbs, rosemary, basil, parsley, oregano, lemon balm and mint hold the palm in Greek cooking. Fish in local fish restaurants (psaritaverns) is prepared very simply: an unpeeled carcass is simply grilled or baked, sprinkled with lemon juice.
Interestingly, regardless of social status, Greeks often visit restaurants. By the way, the Greek word "symposium" literally means "to drink in the company." Well, to have a snack, of course: 18–20 changes of dishes in this case will come in handy!
