Space energy - pros and cons

Space tourism; exotic tours in space

Before technological progress had begun, a person began to be interested in what kind of world was above his head. Long nighttime observations, scientific theories and even accusations of heresy more than once forced astronaut physicists to think several times before continuing their research. However, discussions about space exploration continue to this day and are far from over. The creation of spaceships and even flights to the moon make mankind ask the question: is it worth conquering space?

Solving the problem of overpopulation. It is no secret that there are more and more people all the time, and medicine continues to develop. In the dreams of the most daring enthusiasts, a person has already been born who can gain immortality - which means that overpopulation is not far off. However, if humanity manages to conquer space, this problem will be solved by the appearance of human settlements on other planets.

Space tourism. A plentiful surge in space tourism was expected back in 2012, when several large companies announced their intentions to send the first tourists into space, however, not a single flight happened. For whom exactly space tourism is a plus - for entrepreneurs, or for potential tourists, it is still unknown, and then only because not a single tourist ship from Earth has flown, but the development continues, and in a couple of centuries we may be able to fly into space as easy as we go to the sea now.

Improvement of the navigation system. When the first navigation satellites were launched into space, the quality of travel on the roads became much better. Now motorists don't have to use paper maps - and that's all thanks to satellites. They also helped to draw up a clearer map of the Earth - now anyone can find any place on the globe with an accuracy of centimeters.

Strengthening the defense. No matter how many countries of the world swear in an eternal truce, the protection of borders and the protection of the inhabitants of certain countries still occupies an important place in the internal political activities of any country. Objects related to space weapons are located both on the ground and in the air - and their presence makes the arsenal of any country more impressive.

Consolidation of countries. While the previous plus directly contradicts this, joint efforts in space exploration help different countries to improve relations with each other. After all, when the fate of all mankind is at stake, regardless of its country of residence, success can only be achieved through joint efforts. Realizing this, large countries such as the USA, Russia, China, Japan are investing huge amounts of money in promising projects and forget about small disagreements.

Unknown. One of the most brilliant astrophysicists who ever lived on earth, Stephen Hawking, repeatedly mentioned in an interview that space exploration could turn into a global catastrophe for mankind. Indeed, no one knows what is hidden in those corners of space where man has not yet been able to reach. You might think that alien civilizations wanting death for humanity are just an invention of the authors of science fiction, but when a person of this magnitude speaks about it, goosebumps involuntarily begin to run through the body.

The death of the astronauts. Although astronauts and space scientists have long recognized the sacrifices that space exploration may require (and therefore the first living creatures in outer space were animals), accidents on shuttles and space stations still occur today. While in space, it is difficult to get emergency assistance, and a technical accident can lead to the device crashing to Earth - and the force of the collision will destroy the lives of the astronauts who were in it. Therefore, space flights require careful preparation and education, but the human factor has not been canceled.

Finance costs. Unfortunately, the creation of spacecraft capable of going into space requires huge financial investments. Some countries simply cannot afford it, given that no one promises success. Even Elon Musk, one of the most promising space engineers of our time, lost a lot on his projects - and no one knows if he will be able to succeed even during his life.

Space debris. There are no sweepers in space yet, so debris floating in free space causes a lot of damage to spaceships. This is reflected, again, in financial costs and the quality of the data obtained. In addition, the ecology of the Earth's shell leaves much to be desired - and we still have not dealt with such problems as Global Warming. Garbage also falls on the Earth itself - in particular, a lot of garbage falls in the Altai mountains, polluting the environment with unburnt rocket fuel. What will happen to the planet's ecology if there is more space debris?

The benefits and harms of space exploration

Collecting energy from space and transmitting it wirelessly was first described by Isaac Asimov in the story "The Wandering Mind." Scientists became interested in this idea in the 1970s. The very first was a Czech-American engineer and Dr. Peter Glazer. After numerous studies, various concepts have been identified that use all sorts of forms of principles for the production, transformation and transmission of energy. It was technically possible to implement this concept, but from a financial point of view, it was unrealistic, so the research did not lead to anything.

How does space energy work?

Cosmic solar energy is energy from the sun that is harvested from devices in outer space. The collected energy is then used to either power the same device, the space station, or is transported back to Earth.

Currently, the conversion of solar energy into electricity occurs using photovoltaic cells in geostationary orbit around the Earth. The power is then transmitted using electromagnetic waves at 2.45 GHz to dedicated receiving stations on Earth, which convert the energy back into electricity used on the local network.

To create modular systems for mass production, it is required to reduce the cost of satellites of universal energy. There are several projects based on the idea that a photovoltaic system would consist of a lightweight, deployable structure made up of many small "solar satellites" that connect together.

Pros of space energy

Cons of space energy

Space energy is a very complex integrated system that requires numerous significant advances in modern technology. More than 20 years ago, a technological map was developed that defines potential ways to achieve the popularization of space energy.

According to the forecasts of scientists, universal power plants are unlikely to replace traditional sources of material. But it works very well as an alternative or backup source. The space power plant could be turned into a back-up point for the use of energy in vital institutions. The development of such a method of obtaining energy will greatly simplify the life of the entire society. It remains only to wait for the correct implementation of this idea.

No sooner had technical progress begun than a person became interested in what kind of world is above his head. Long night observations, scientific theories and even accusations of heresy more than once forced astronaut physicists to think several times ...

In this article, we will tell you about one of the romantic professions of mankind, which attracts not only children, but also adults. Today we will tell you who the astronaut is, how to become one, what he does and what benefits he brings to humanity.

We don't even need wikipedia to formulate a clear and correct definition.

An astronaut is a specially trained person who has special training and, with the help of a spacecraft, makes flights into space

History of the profession

The world learned the word "cosmonautics" much earlier than the first manned flight into outer space. In 1933, the work of Ari Abramovich Sternfeld was published, which was called "Introduction to Cosmonautics". This was the reason that the word cosmonaut was included in the Russian language.

The first cosmonaut on Earth was Yuri Gagarin, who flew into space on April 12, 1961.

Since the time that man began to fly into space, the profession has acquired a special interest on the part of mankind. To this day, it is the most mysterious specialty on the planet.

Features of the profession

We will not exaggerate if we affirmatively declare that this profession is special and requires special knowledge, skills and personal qualities from a person.

  • Excellent health, as you will have to endure constant overloads, perform spacewalk and live in zero gravity. All this can only be overcome by healthy people.
  • Have courage and confidence in yourself and your own strengths.
  • Be resourceful and enterprising;
  • Have a healthy psyche and the absence of various kinds of fears and phobias;
  • Be able to independently make important decisions;
  • Be responsible for themselves and their own actions;
  • Have knowledge in the field of space technology;
  • Know the program for research and experiments in space;
  • Have skills in working with scientific literature ...

Who is attracted by outer space

Outer space attracts a huge number of specialists from various professional fields. These include:

In the field of modern world tourism, a new creative direction is gradually but rather actively developing - space tourism. This concept implies the provision of the opportunity for one person or as part of a group to make space travel. At the moment, there are not so many organizations providing such an original type of service around the world. And they all work according to a standard, streamlined scheme: payment, preparation, flight.

Is space tourism more space or tourism?

The essence of space tourism lies in the fact that modern tourists, after paying for them, can make a flight into low-earth orbit or into space. The popularity of this type of entertainment is gaining momentum, although space travel can be carried out for a variety of purposes. Ordinary people can fly into space:

  • have fun and get new sensations;
  • for research purposes;
  • if you want to know the unknown;
  • to raise the prestige among those around you.

Seeing interplanetary space, experiencing conditions of zero gravity, feeling like an almost full-fledged astronaut is a pleasure that, given the opportunity, it will be difficult to refuse even the most inquisitive person. In addition, many companies and agencies are developing the provision of various types of combined space services at a professional level.

For example, soon it will be easy to get married on board a spaceship, to celebrate a family or corporate event. Exciting walks in outer space are also planned - in spacesuits and with appropriate training. Like the flights themselves, such innovations will cost a lot, but for many modern entrepreneurs and show business representatives, the cost will not be a stumbling block, because indescribable emotions and adrenaline are at stake!

A few years ago, the notorious British company Excalibur Almaz announced that they were planning to fly tourist flights into space around the Moon. And in the future, a possible landing of space tourists on the lunar surface is also promised.

But life turned out to be much more prosaic, and now the Japanese billionaire investor Takafumi Horie is suing the head of the private space company Excalibur Almaz Arthur Gyula because he deceived him by spending more than $ 50 million on "secret Soviet space stations ", where he was promised to send tourists to the ISS and even to the Moon

Pros and cons of space tours

The main disadvantage of this original type of tourist destination is the large amount of payment for pleasure. According to various sources, the cost of a space flight can now range from $ 20 to $ 40 million. As an additional entertainment, cosmotourism companies are offering a new type of service - the entry of space tourists into open space, the price of such an extreme is about 15 million dollars.

Also, in addition to additional services that are developed by modern companies, it is planned to build space housing for tourists. In such an “unearthly” hotel, one can feel even more exotic than when taking a flight. In this case, the main features of space hotels can be considered:

  • Availability of the "earthly" range of hotel services in special conditions.
  • Original view from the porthole.
  • Possibility of living in a state of weightlessness.

The most relevant at this moment is the project of Bigelow Aerospace, which was founded in 1999. After careful development of the NASA space project and the subsequent purchase of a patent by the owner of the company, in June 2006 Russia launched Genesis-1 - an experimental satellite "Bigelow Aerospace", which was created using new technologies. And in 2007, the Genesis-2 was launched on the Dnepr launch vehicle. The main purpose of the actions performed was to create opportunities for transferring the living module with an inflatable shell into open space.
