Catalonia introduces perimeter isolation and other restrictive measures

29.0.020. Coronavirus in Spain. Catalonia: perimeter isolation and other "new" restrictive measures. At a press conference held on Thursday, October 29, the Catalan authorities announced new restrictive measures in the region, designed to "break the curve of the coronavirus." Among the decisions taken by the Generalitat are the isolation of the entire community around the perimeter, the isolation of municipalities for the weekend, the suspension of cultural and sports activities.

According to the authorities of the region, the deterioration of the parameters of coronavirus statistics in the community forced the Generalitat to take new restrictive measures regarding the freedom of movement and social activity of citizens. The measures come into force on Friday 30 October, simultaneously with the publication of the corresponding decree of the Government of Catalonia in the official government gazette and will be valid for 15 days, until November 14, with the possibility of their subsequent cancellation, modification or extension.

Restrictions on mobility between municipalities

During the weekend (from 06:00 Friday to 06:00 Monday), there will be perimeter isolation of individual municipalities, movement between which is allowed only in specially agreed cases.

Perimeter isolation of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia

Perimeter isolation of the entire community of Catalonia is announced throughout the week (not only on weekends) for a period of at least 15 days. Thus, crossing the borders of Catalonia will be prohibited, except in specially stipulated cases.

Cultural centers and gyms will be closed

The new restrictions also entail the cessation of cultural activities and the closure of sports centers. Cinemas, theaters, exhibition centers, libraries, etc. will be closed. However, with regard to libraries and museums, a little later, some "relaxation" was introduced - libraries will be allowed to lend and accept books, and museums to continue their work, with a maximum occupancy rate of no more than 33%.

Closing shopping centers

Shopping centers and shops with an area of more than 800 square meters will also be closed. The exception will be commercial establishments selling basic necessities and food. In other stores, the occupancy rate should not exceed 33%.

Bar and restaurant closures are extended

The ban on the work of cafes, bars and restaurants, which was introduced almost two weeks ago, is being extended. Home delivery will be allowed until 23. 0.

20. 1. 021. News from Barcelona and Catalonia. As it just became known, the Catalan authorities intend to extend the restrictions currently in force in the region, taken "in order to counteract the further spread of the Covid-19 pandemic," for another two weeks - until February 7. This was announced in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio by Josep Maria Arjimon - Secretary of the Department of Health of Catalonia.

Recall: On January 7, a package of restrictive measures came into force on the territory of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, which, according to the regional authorities, should have improved the epidemiological situation in the region.

Initially, according to a decree of the Catalan government, the restrictions were imposed for a period of ten days, until January 17, however, "in view of a sharp deterioration in epidemiological indicators and a significant increase in new infections", the Catalan authorities decided on January 14 to extend the current measures for another week, until 00:00 on January 25.

However, today, January 20, Josep Maria Arjimon announced that the measures will be extended for another two weeks - that is, until Sunday, February 7.

Thus, until February 7, the following restrictions will continue to apply in Catalonia:

Perimeter isolation within municipalities, valid throughout the week (not just weekends).

Perimeter isolation of the entire community as a whole - unless otherwise specified.

Until February 7, all shopping centers and shops with an area of over 400 sq m are prohibited from working. As for shops with a smaller area, they are prohibited from working on weekends (the only exceptions are shops selling essential items).

All school extracurricular and cultural activities will be suspended until February 7th.

Bars and restaurants will continue to "work" until February 7 according to the current schedule: from 7:30 to 9:30 and from 13 to 15 hours with a maximum occupancy of 30%.

The work of gyms and sports centers, both indoors and outdoors, is prohibited.

Catalonia has long been recognized as the most popular holiday destination for Europeans. Spain annually receives about 70 million tourists, with 16 million of them heading to Barcelona, the beaches of the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada. However, due to the difficult political situation in the region, the situation may end rather sadly.

Situation in Catalonia

The referendum on the independence of Catalonia was held under the leadership of local authorities 01. 0. 017. Despite the fact that Madrid considers it illegal, more than 90% voted for secession and obtaining the status of a separate state, less than 8 voted against (with turnout 43.03%).

Despite the fact that the Spanish government has declared the head of the region wanted, he is in Belgium and comments on his position as follows: “The Catalans were able to show the whole world that they can become an independent state, so we simply have to ratify the decisions 21 December". Thus, he underlines the beginning of his election campaign.

Supporters of Catalan independence took to the streets in support of the referendum

This was preceded by the consequences of a referendum, as a result of which the entire government of the republic was dismissed. Exactly one week later, on October 27, Catalonia declared its independence. Madrid, in turn, voted to apply Article 155 of the Constitution, allowing direct control over the region, and most of the ministers of the autonomy were arrested.

Important! At the moment, Catalonia officially remains a subject under the jurisdiction of Spain, which allows you to visit it on a Schengen or national Spanish visa.

Visa processing

Obtaining a visa to the Schengen zone has one significant advantage, it allows you to visit other countries in the region that are part of the zone. An ordinary national visa does not give such powers, while the Spanish Embassy is quite acceptable to this and practically does not refuse to issue it. You can perform all the necessary actions yourself. This will require a number of documents:
