The hike follows the classic route - Seligerskaya around the world.
Part of the route goes along the Selizharovka and Volga rivers, and most of the route goes along Seliger Lake and the Upper Volga lakes. There is practically no current in the lakes, so we will walk along the surface of the lake at our own expense.
Stunning views of Russian nature, pine forests, lakes, fishing, berries and mushrooms (in season) await us. For several evenings we will arrange a camping bath for bathing and pleasure. There will be a half-day rest during the trip.
A mini-electric generator is taken with you, which will be turned on in the evenings in the camp for a limited time to recharge the devices.
On Friday evening, near the Myakinino metro station, we take a bus specially ordered for us and go to Lake Seliger. On the way, we get to know each other and begin to communicate.
We arrive at the place of the first overnight stay after midnight, have dinner and go to bed.
In the morning we get up, have breakfast and before lunch we go to the pearl of the Seligersky region - the monastery of Nilova Pustyn. We inspect the temple complex and climb the bell tower from which a stunning view of the lake opens. There is a market near the monastery where you can buy locally produced smoked fish.
Once we are, we have lunch and, after a briefing on behavior on the water, we sit down in kayaks in order to hit the road. Today we have to walk about 20 kilometers along the lake to the Selizharovsky "bay" where we will spend the night.
Traveling along the Volga River, one cannot but enjoy three cities - Samara, Togliatti and Syzran. These are three places you need to visit to view the Volga, explore your native Russian land and enjoy the picturesque sights. More details about these places below.
Samara is one of the largest industrial, cultural, scientific Russian centers, which is located on the left bank of the Volga River. It has the longest river embankment, the largest city square and the tallest railway station in Europe.
Samara is famous for its picturesque nature. In addition to the embankment overlooking the Volga, Samara has a beautiful nature reserve and the Zhigulevsky mountains.
The list of its best natural attractions includes the village of Shiryaevo, Mount Strelnaya and Molodetsky Kurgan, which allow you to enjoy the Volga. The list of the best places of interest includes Buzuluk Bor, Greve Caves and Racheysky Bor.
Togliatti or Stavropol-on-Volga by its unofficial name is the city of the Samara region, a nature conservation area with a large number of nature reserves that allow you to enjoy the beauty near the Volga.
The city is the birthplace of AvtoVAZ, a city located on the Kuibyshev reservoir, densely surrounded by forest. Its untouchable nature is combined with architectural monuments, modern buildings, so Togliatti is ideal for an exciting tour along the Volga.
There is a park complex of history of technology dedicated to Sakharov, a museum of nature of the Samara region, an embankment near which the Temple of the Assumption, a monument to Tatishchev, the Transfiguration Cathedral and an Italian beach are located.
Victory Park, the Museum of Art and Historical and Cultural Heritage of the city must be added to the list of must-see places on an exciting tour of the Volga.
Another symbolic place for lovers with a beautiful history that must be seen and visited is the Monument of Devotion. In June, Togliatti hosts a festival of art songs on Fedorovskie meadows, which is also a must for a visit as part of the tour.
The width of the Volga is not a constant value, since the river passes various parts of the earth's surface for more than three and a half thousand kilometers.
All these features have their effect on the width of the water flow, so the size of the channel cannot be conveyed by one specific number.
Its channel increases many times over, and in the delta the largest width is up to 200 km (the channel has a maximum of 40 km), splitting into about 500 channels with a width of 30 to 40 meters.
If we consider the issue of the width of the river for each of its parts separately, then the Upper Volga in the territory of the Yaroslavl region in its natural channel has average figures from 500 to 650 meters, from Rybinsk to Nekrasovskaya pier, the width is from 600 meters to 1 km.
Now let's look at the minimum and maximum:
If you do not take into account the source, do not take into account the distance between the banks of the Upper Volga (from 500 m), and explore the channel of the river that has already gained strength, then the Zhigulyovsk gate will be the narrowest point of the Volga.
Here, even before the construction of the Volzhskaya hydroelectric power station, between the Tip-Tyav and Sernaya mountains, the stream bed was compressed to 700 meters. Now the width is 925 meters, which is explained by the rise in the level of the river after the construction of the dam of the Saratov hydroelectric station.
Factors affecting the width and other characteristics of the river are divided into two groups:
I travel a lot in Russia, especially along the rivers. And so, based on my personal experience, I decided to create for you the top 5 most beautiful places on the Volga, which you probably have not even heard of. So let's go!
These places are known to most tourists, but still many did not even know about the existence of these mountains. The beauty of these places attracted even famous artists such as Aivazovsky and Repin. In the area of the hill, located in the bend of the Samarskaya Luka, there really is something to see! Almost the entire territory is occupied by the Zhigulevsky State Reserve, in which the rarest species of flora and fauna are still preserved. By the way, people say that they often see UFOs over the mountains, and some say that they saw a whole city in the sky. So you won't get bored here!
There is one very interesting story connected with the Rybinsk reservoir.
At the end of the 12th century, where the Mologa tributary flows into the Volga, a small town was founded. Throughout its history, it flourished and grew in population. However, in the 30s of the 20th century, when the population of the city numbered more than 5 thousand people, the construction of the Rybinsk hydroelectric complex began. To complete it, it was required to flood the city and about 700 settlements near it. Many were evacuated, but some remained to die in their homes. Now the city is completely flooded. Rumor has it that sometimes coffins emerge in this place and remind of the existence of a city there. Mologa herself did not completely disappear either. Dilapidated houses and churches periodically appear over the Volga, then this place becomes very picturesque!
This city on the Volga is considered the cleanest and "untouched". The place is very beautiful and you can talk about it for a long time. Therefore, I will write a separate article about this city!
There are many legends and different stories about this beautiful place. The cliff itself is the shore of the Volgograd reservoir. The coast in this area rises 35-40 meters. It is located in the Saratov region near the border with the Volgograd region. According to one of the legends, in these places you can see the ghost of Stepan Razin, which can appear in any form.
This village is located on an island at the confluence of the Sviyaga River into the Volga (Zelenodolsk region of Tatarstan). He is famous for the most part for his monasteries. So the Assumption Cathedral in 2017 was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. I say right away that the village is very small, only ± 250 people, so there is mostly nothing but monasteries.
A mouth is the final part of a river that flows into a natural or artificial body of water.
The river delta is considered the largest in area in Europe. The area is famous for its rich natural resources. Consider in the article in detail all the features of the mouth of the Volga River.
The Volga flows into the Caspian Sea (from the Latin Caspium mare) - the largest enclosed body of water on Earth, which in its geographic essence is a lake, but because of its size it is called the sea.
The city is the center of the region of the same name, on the territory of which almost the entire Volga Delta is located. A very insignificant part of it goes to Kazakhstan.
In its shape, the mouth of the Volga resembles a palm with spread fingers, which symbolize separate channels. The delta has the shape of an almost regular triangle. Its top is located near the village. Upper Lebyazhye, at the point of departure of the Buzan branch. The latter, together with the Kigach channel, borders the Delta from the east.
The western border is the Bakhtemir arm - a continuation of the main river bed.
The length of the sea part of the Delta (border with the Caspian Sea) is 200 km. The absolute height of land at the mouth is minus 21 m at the level of the Caspian Sea of minus 27.5 m. Due to the depression of the Caspian Sea, the area of the Volga delta is gradually increasing.
