Fear of the first dive often becomes the main inhibiting factor that prevents a tourist from joining a new type of active recreation. However, diving, especially recreational, can be called an extreme sport only for advertising purposes. Scuba diving, like alpine skiing, has its own difficulty levels, and there are practically no serious dangers for beginners - after all, no one puts neophyte skiers, who confuse a yoke with a telemark, immediately on the "black" track. Of course, a person who is wearing a wetsuit for the first time in their life will experience excitement - and what a great deal! But if you dive with modern equipment and pay close attention to the instructions, then this excitement will remain just a pleasant surge of hormones before diving into the unknown. Real "extreme" - great depths, tangible currents, night dives, ice and speleo diving are the lot of experienced divers.
For beginners - shallow water, water of a comfortable temperature and no strong currents. The only thing they should be afraid of is close contact with poisonous creatures or plants. The pre-dive briefing certainly includes a separate item that under water you should not grab anything with your hands: not only for reasons of safety of the diver himself, but also in order not to cause any harm to the underwater flora and fauna. Indeed, if every diver in the Red Sea touches one coral, in a couple of years there will be nothing to touch.
Diving tours can be divided into two main types: daily diving and dive safari. It is better to go on a dive safari for experienced divers who are not afraid of seasickness and are ready to exchange excursions and shopping for rare dive sites and a company of like-minded people. Basically, a dive safari is a sea cruise with two to four dives a day. Since there is no need to return to the shore every evening, safaris make available distant and interesting dive sites, where, among other things, the underwater world is much less "spoiled" by tourists.
The main disadvantage of a dive safari is that when living on a ship, the flavor of the country is not so keenly felt, although passengers will certainly delight with national fun and cuisine. The duration of this cruise can vary from 3 to 13 nights.
Daily diving is more suitable for beginner divers and groups in which only a subset of people dive. In the morning, the diver will be picked up at the hotel and taken either to the diving center or directly to the pier, from there they will be taken by boat or small boat to the planned dive site. After the first dive, the diver will have a light lunch on board, then the second dive, and in the evening - return to the shore. If desired, it is possible to dive three times a day.
If there are two vacationers, and only one of them dives, then the second one can also be offered to take a walk on the boat, watch the process and swim for pleasure with a mask and a snorkel. The advantages of daily diving are obvious: a full-fledged beach holiday, and if you suddenly feel unwell, you can postpone the day of diving without losing your mood and wallet. The main disadvantage of this method of diving is that diving sites close to the shore have seen more than one generation of tourists, and therefore their condition often leaves much to be desired.
Conventionally, the countries of diving tourism can be divided into two categories:
From the moment of his birth, a person carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is chained to the ground. But as soon as a person dives under the water, he gains freedom. Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Initially, diving did not have a direction in the tourism sector and was created with the aim of knowing and studying the underwater world. In ancient times, the profession of pearl divers was known; after the invention of scuba gear in 1943, the industry developed in a military direction. But the war ended, and exploration and knowledge of the ocean began. Today we have several types of diving: recreational, technical, sports, scientific, military. We will explore the possibilities of recreational diving.
Recreational diving is diving in order to become familiar with the underwater environment through observation and enjoyment of the process. The main motive for recreational diving is relaxation. It is not difficult to start diving like this. There are two ways - introdiving and training diving courses.
This is when you come to a dive center at a resort and buy a dive with an instructor who selects your equipment, reads a short briefing and in the process fully controls you and your equipment. At the same time, you just have to breathe and observe the beauty of the underwater world. The good thing about this diving experience is that you get more experience in open water than in a pool. Impressions can be good or bad. And based on your emotions from the immersion, you decide whether you should continue to do it. The main disadvantage is that you do not learn anything, and you can dive in this format with an instructor as much as you like, but you yourself cannot go under water.
This is when you decided that diving is for you, and consciously came to some club to learn. There are several international training systems. The most popular ones today are PADI, CMAS, NDL, SSI. Also, the programs of these systems have several levels of complexity. The advantage of this method is that you accumulate the skills and knowledge necessary for safe diving. And also take responsibility for your life. And you get an international certificate that allows you to independently dive and rent equipment anywhere in the world. The downside is that this path requires more money and time.
There is another category of diving - children's diving. This is a relatively young direction, but actively developing. Here the main question arises: "At what age can children go diving?" Opinions differ here, but if we summarize all the studies, then the optimal age for starting is 8-10 years. Someone starts even earlier at 7, 6, and even 5 years old, but it all depends on the wishes and capabilities of the parents. It is important to note that in order for a child to start diving, he does not need to be able to swim. This is welcome, but it’s okay if the child doesn’t swim.
In the field of children's diving, there are instructors who have completed a special training course. A diving instructor for children should know the physiology of children and adolescents, understand child psychology and be able to find an approach to a child. Not every instructor can work with children.
Also, special equipment is used for children, it is smaller or well adjustable, and it is lightweight so that the child is comfortable using it. The training system is also slightly different, mainly in the depth of the dives. That is, if the adult novice diver's certificate gives permission to dive up to 20 meters, then the children's certificate gives permission up to 12 meters.
In the end, I want to say that wherever you go to dive, your safety is in your hands. Without an understanding of responsibility, all the knowledge and skills acquired during training will be difficult to apply in practice. As for diving for children, it is important to understand that children are easier to adapt to the aquatic environment, and water is more a friend than an enemy for them. And here it is important to correctly explain to the child the area of his own responsibility and the need for control from the instructor.
