Laura Sargsyan, Sputnik Armenia

Armenia conquers tourists not only with its capital - Yerevan, which is older than Rome, with national dishes, delicious and high-quality water. The first country in the world to adopt Christianity at the state level surprises most of all with its unusual, and in some cases even mystical sights.

Sputnik Armenia presents the top 10 most breathtaking tourist destinations in Armenia that can be blown away. It is easy to be speechless here, feel incredible energy and enjoy the picturesque view.

Wings of Tatev

For fans of extreme adventures, the world's longest cable car "Wings of Tatev" is a godsend. Located four to five hours from the capital, Tatev attracts foreigners literally like a magnet. An incredible surge of energy can be felt from the first minutes of the ride on the reversible cable car. It stretches over the gorge of the Vorotan River from the village of Halidzor, its length is 5752 meters, and its height is 320 meters.

There is also an old monastery complex - one of the largest temple complexes in the country. It is surrounded by insanely beautiful forests. The air way to the monastery takes about 12 minutes, while the road along the steep serpentine of the Vorotan Gorge takes about 40 minutes. The cable car cabins can accommodate 30 passengers, and there is not a single conductor.

Coming to Yerevan and not visiting the largest repository of ancient manuscripts "Matenadaran" means not knowing the wisdom of the Armenian people. It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century, on the basis of the collection of the Echmiadzin Monastery, which dates back to the 5th century. Many foreigners are surprised that so much ancient knowledge has been collected in Yerevan.

More than 17 thousand ancient manuscripts and more than 100 thousand old archival documents are kept in the funds of Matenadaran. They contain texts in different languages - from Hebrew to Greek and Syriac.

It is best to fly to Armenia by plane. Just two and a half hours from Moscow - and you are in the arms of high mountains. When approaching, Mount Ararat is clearly visible, which is majestically located on the territory adjacent to Armenia. Although she is located in Turkey, Armenians have always considered her to be their national pride. Even on the national emblem of the country, Ararat is depicted. There is also a belief that Noah's ark landed on this very mountain after the flood.

Getting to know the capital - Yerevan

Zvartnots Airport is located 30 km from Yerevan and it is not difficult to get from it to the capital. Buses run regularly, and there is no end to the taxi drivers. At the entrance to the city, the famous Armenian brandy factory meets. It is located near the picturesque Hrazdan Gorge. And in the gorge itself, a large Hrazdan stadium was built, next to it there are tennis courts. On the other side of the gorge there is a church of Surb Sargiz (Saint Sargiz).

An avenue stretches from the church, at the end of which there is the famous museum of Mashtots, the creator of the Armenian alphabet and writing. The Republic Square is beautiful and colorful, with shimmering multi-colored lights and singing fountains. It looks especially mesmerizing in the evening, like the city itself. The beauty of the evening Yerevan, where even the trees are illuminated, will not leave anyone indifferent.

The Northern Avenue stretches from the square, along which there are elite residential buildings, brand shops, European-level restaurants. There is a prospect to the opera house. Next to it is Karapi Lich, which means "Swan Lake". This is a small artificial reservoir, framed by willows standing on the shore. In winter, the lake turns into a skating rink.

Not far from the opera house is the main attraction of the capital - the Cascade. Climbing it, you can see the whole city at a glance. Yerevan is especially beautiful at sunset.

Temples and monasteries of Armenia

The first two days we devoted to visiting temples and monasteries. We were the first to visit the Garni temple and the Geghard monastery complex.

Not far from it, in a gorge among the rocks, is the Geghard monastery. They say that there was a spear with which they killed Christ. The monastery itself, founded in the 4th century BC. ., was carved into the rock.
