How to assemble a first aid kit for a trip

First aid kit for a hike - a list of medicines for a tourist that should be in a hiking kit in the mountains

Tourists know firsthand what unforeseen situations may arise during a trip. Therefore, when going on a hike of any distance, you need to take a tourist's first-aid kit with you. It should include all the necessary medicines and materials for first aid.

Tourist's first aid kit

Recommendations for drawing up a tourist first aid kit:

  • Choose fast-acting drugs that eliminate pathological symptoms in a matter of minutes;
  • Cover all groups of drugs (analgesics, antipyretics, antihistamines, antiseptics, enterosorbents, antiemetics, antidiarrheal and others);
  • The drugs should be available, that is, they can be easily obtained from the pharmacy without a prescription;
  • The drugs should be with a good expiration date;
  • Medicines put in a first aid kit in a package with instructions for use;
  • You should not purchase new drugs. It is better to equip the first-aid kit with medicines that have already been used and have not caused negative consequences and allergies.

You can also supplement the ready-made first-aid kit with some drugs, depending on the diseases that the participants of the hike have. And you should also take into account the age of tourists and the type of hike (to the mountains, forest, steppe, and so on).

General requirements for travel kit and packaging

Anything can happen on a hike, so you need to have a first aid kit with you, which contains all the drugs and they are of proper quality. To provide qualified medical care, it is necessary to properly assemble the first aid kit.

Let's look at some general requirements for a first aid kit:

  • It is better to divide medicines into blocks. For example, drugs for assisting with poisoning can be combined and put into one cell. This will help save time on fundraising and simplify the task for the person who provides assistance;
  • Place funds with similar actions nearby. For example, all antipyretics in one place;
  • Before completing a first-aid kit on a hike, check the expiration dates of the drugs. If the markings on the packaging are erased or indistinguishable, then such medicines cannot be taken with you;
  • Medicines in glass must be additionally wrapped with tape to avoid spreading the glass throughout the entire medicine cabinet if the vial is damaged;
  • Ampoules should be stored in a special plastic container;
  • A list of medicines, medical supplies and products should be attached to the tourist's first aid kit;
  • There should be a memo containing a brief description of the drugs, as well as algorithms first aid for various emergency conditions.

The packaging of the first aid kit should also be given attention.

There are a number of requirements that a tourist's first-aid kit must meet:

  • Red cross markings on the container;
  • Light packaging;
  • Rigid frame. The first aid kit should not shrink and deform;

Going downhill skiing or snowboarding? Don't forget your first aid kit! We will tell you what to put in your backpack and why to take a pencil and paper with you on the slope. Let's go!

What's in a skier's first aid kit

Sunscreen should go first in the suitcase. You can get burned on the track in the same way as on the beach: the sun's rays reflected from the sea, even from the snow-white slope, can cause severe burns. Only the face is to be smeared, so a compact tube will be enough that will fit in a backpack pocket. Hygienic lipstick, which you will use to lubricate chapped lips, does not hurt either.

Falls on the slope are inevitable. To help bruises go away faster, take any anti-hematoma ointment with you.

A slight muscle strain and ligament injury is not yet a reason to end the ski season. An elastic bandage and ointments for bruises and sprains will help you return to the slope. And if you have already had injuries or are going to ride very actively, then neoprene calipers for knees and ankles will not interfere.

Another necessary remedy for winter sports is a warming ointment: it is used before skiing - to improve blood circulation, as well as during - if a person is freezing and to restore muscle tone after exertion.

Is that enough?

We have listed funds that will come in handy at the ski resort. However, you should carry your regular traveller's first aid kit with you. What does it include?

Unfamiliar food, and even not always prepared with the clean hands of spa chefs, presents surprises, and therefore we take remedies for constipation and diarrhea, as well as pills for stomach infections.

No one is insured against common colds and flu at the resort, a proven medicine that will help to quickly bring down the temperature and say goodbye to a runny nose will not be superfluous.

Skyscanner has compiled a minimum first aid kit, which includes everything you need and does not take up much space in your luggage. Learn about all the intricacies of collecting a travel first-aid kit at sea and on any other vacation and keep in mind a list of medicines that you should always have with you.

A first aid kit on the road is akin to insurance: you hope it won't come in handy, but you take it anyway. And then you take it home unpacked. For those who are not ready to carry half a suitcase of medicines, but also do not want to run around pharmacies on vacation, we have compiled a basic first-aid kit for one person for two to three weeks. I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Perhaps my dreams of medicine were reflected in my mountain first aid kit with a wide range of uses. She has helped both me and my fellow climbers and hikes more than once. On a number of travels, I was even proudly called the “expedition doctor”. Therefore, I was always accompanied by that same mountain first-aid kit.

Let me explain right away, there will be nothing about a high-mountain first-aid kit here. My mountain first aid kit is such a first aid kit with which I go to the local mountains, not very distant/high. Days for 1-12, in the company of 1-30 potential patients. By the way, according to my personal survey, 80% of applicants for treatment do not have their own first aid kit.

What is my mountain first aid kit

Although a mountain first-aid kit is supposed to be a red bag, drawer, bag (underline the necessary) with a white plus, my first-aid kit is a large gray cosmetic bag. It looks like I'm wearing makeup with me to the mountains. But this cosmetic bag (in theory, it was designed for storing probes) has a bunch of convenient features.

1 - it has handles and can be carried by them. 2 - it is square and flat. It can be put into the backpack from above, or you can push it to the back or sideways if there is an empty space. 3 - there are many mesh pockets in it, through which you can evenly spread everything out, and because of which you can immediately see and understand what is in the first-aid kit.

There are some first aid kits in which you just heap all your medicines. Because there is only one branch. Well, or one compartment plus a small pocket. And when you need to find something, for example, on the road, in the rain, for example, in the slush, in order to find something in such a first-aid kit, you probably need to dump the contents out of it, maybe even right into this slush and under this rain.

The downside of my first aid kit is that it leaks water. Once in the rain, I put it in the corner of the tent, into which water flowed at night. The first-aid kit was drowned, medicines too. When I bought them again, it turned out that the contents of the first aid kit were worth a fortune. Therefore, after that incident, I always keep it wrapped in a bag.

I admired the Oriflame cosmetic bag, now there are medicines. There are a lot of them, like for almost all occasions.

Tourist trips, expeditions, rafting, mountaineering trips always carry the risk of traumatic or extreme situations when a person urgently needs medical attention. To provide it quickly, you need a first aid kit. It is purchased at a pharmacy or collected independently, taking into account a number of nuances.

Tourist First Aid Kit Collection Policy

Formation of a first aid kit for a hike is individual, but there are general principles of collection. When preparing, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  • all medications must be fast acting so that their effect is directed to the elimination of acute conditions such as heart attack, fever, poisoning;
  • dressing materials must cover damage from small cuts to severe fractures;
  • it is better to choose medicines that you have already dealt with;

Recommendations for the selection of medicines

First aid kit is calculated taking into account the number of people:

  • The approximate amount of antihistamines and pain relievers per person is 0.5 pack.
  • All drugs for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders should be taken in increased quantities, since such pathologies are the most common. Consumption - 1 package for 1 tourist.
  • In the case of injuries, a maximum of 3 damage should be counted. In more severe cases, the hike will have to be stopped.
  • Amount of all other medicines - 1 pack for 2 people.

Packaging requirements

An important condition for collecting a first-aid kit on a trip is the preparation of not only medicines, but also packaging for their storage. It must meet the following requirements:

  • Tightness. Even if the first aid kit falls into the water, the liquid should not get inside.
  • Strong lock. It should open easily and remain closed under various external influences.
  • Weight. The packaging should not be too heavy.
