Vepsian Forest National Park - Leningrad Region, Vepsian Forest National Park

The Vepsian Forest National Park is a real pearl of Russian nature. This reserve plays an important role in the ecological well-being of the North-West of Russia. The total area of forest land is 189 hectares. The park is located in the eastern part of the Leningrad region, it is divided into 7 special territories-reserves with a special nature conservation status.

Most of the park is located on the Veps Upland. In the center of the forest there is a small mountain range consisting of carbonic deposits that arose here more than 320 million years ago.

"Vepsian forest" is the land of lakes, swamps and mountain rivers. The largest lake is Lerinskoe. The park's arboretum is dominated by spruce and pine trees. Most trees are 100 years old and up. In accordance with the features of the relief, climate and vegetation, a unique taiga fauna has been formed in the park, which is not similar in the Leningrad region and the surrounding regions. The "Vepsian forest" is inhabited by brown bears, Red Book owls, woodpeckers, crossbills, rare black-throated loons, which disappeared in other territories of the North-West region 50 years ago. The park is one of the few places where an animal that is almost impossible to meet in the wild - the wolverine - lives.

The ethnographic significance of the "Vepsian forest" is great. One of the smallest nationalities of the Russian Federation, the Vepsians, has lived here since ancient times. This is a unique ethnic group with its own language, original culture and ancient traditions. The Vepsians belong to the Finno-Ugric group, which was greatly influenced by the Baltic peoples. In the village. Shugozero is an ethno-museum, and in the village. Vinnitsa - Veps culture center.

The Vepsian Forest is a mysterious, beautiful place created by nature itself. The authorities of the Leningrad region managed to preserve this reserve in its original form. The park is pristine taiga forests, blue lakes, foggy swamps, numerous streams and rivers, air saturated with the aromas of spruce and pine needles.

The entire tourist infrastructure has been created in the Vepsian Forest Park: eco-hotels, guest houses, campgrounds. All man-made objects are maximally carefully built into the natural landscape. Visitors to the park will be able to relax in nature, improve their health in the fresh air, fish, hunt, get acquainted with the culture of the Vepsians, and taste amazing local cuisine.

The park administration organizes tourist programs for both single travelers and families, groups of schoolchildren and students. With the participation of experienced geographers and ethnographers, several ecological routes have been created, fully acquainting tourists with the life of the Vepsian forest.

Guests must be accompanied by guides, therefore, excursions must be agreed in advance. In the forest, there are many hunting lodges where you can stay overnight.

For many residents of St. Petersburg, the question has not been raised for a long time where on weekends, on vacation or on vacation to have a rest in the winter in the Leningrad Region.

As a rule, these are places where you can enjoy clean forest air, picturesque rivers and lakes, and this is in the absence of long flights, language barriers and long acclimatization.
