The acceptance of applications for participation in the first All-Russian competition for the creation of tourist and recreational clusters and the development of ecotourism in Russia has begun. Read about the goals and objectives of the project, designed to bring ecological tourism to a new level, in our material.

APPLICATION OPEN

On June 16, the first All-Russian competition for the creation of tourist and recreational clusters and the development of ecotourism started. The project was initiated and implemented by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) with the support of the ministries for the development of the Far East and the Arctic, natural resources, economic development, agriculture, and Rostourism.

As the director general of ASI Svetlana Chupsheva said during the online conference, over the past three years, only 12% of the Russian population have visited national parks and reserves. There are several reasons for this: expensive package solutions and their inadequacy, lack of information on eco-routes, lack of transport infrastructure and a number of federal restrictions that prevent private business from entering this sector.

“Moreover, until now, national parks and reserves perform a protective function rather than work to attract tourists,” she stressed.

The ASI believes that the time has come to change the approach to ecological tourism, and the announced competition can just create "the foundation for an integrated and serious approach to the development of tourist and recreational clusters associated with ecotourism."

“The goal of our project is to show how you can attract tourists, taking into account the anthropogenic load of territories. In each case, this is an individual approach, based on biodiversity and the permissible rate of tourist flow of the territory, ”said Svetlana Chupsheva. The head of the ASI recalled that there are 11 natural sites in the Russian Federation included in the UNESCO list.

According to Ms. Chupsheva, a lot of preparatory work was done before the launch of the competition: international practice, legislation, business opportunities were studied, experts and related ministries and departments were involved.

As Svetlana Chupsheva emphasized, the partners of the competition, including the ministries, and in particular Rosturizm, “multiply the project's capabilities”, since efforts and opportunities of federal and regional programs, business and investors, and the creation of new jobs are consolidated on one territory and attracting the population.

CAREFUL PROJECT SELECTION

Sergey Ivanov, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for environmental protection, ecology and transport, headed the Competition Commission. According to him, the crisis caused by the pandemic, and painfully hit many of our traditional ways, at the same time opened a "window of opportunity" for ecological tourism in Russia.

Sergey Ivanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, Chairman of the Competition Commission:

“The crisis caused by the pandemic and painfully hit many of our traditional ways, at the same time opened a“ window of opportunity ”for ecological tourism in Russia. New ecological routes, which will not only allow you to visit unique natural sites, but also give you the opportunity to see rare representatives of flora and fauna with your own eyes, will undoubtedly enjoy guaranteed success with our citizens. At the same time, tourism is able to give a powerful impetus to the development of the system of specially protected natural areas, to attract large investments in it, first of all, private ones ”.

Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Environmental Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, member of the Competition Commission:

“The potential of natural areas creates unique opportunities for the formation of a modern tourist product for the development of domestic and inbound tourism in Russia, contributes to the preservation of cultural and historical objects, is a driver of sustainable socio-economic development of regions. Among the priority measures aimed at the further development of ecotourism, I see ensuring the transport accessibility of protected areas, the creation of tourist infrastructure facilities with the involvement of the local population in the process, and even the creation of a single tour operator for the development of ecotourism on the basis of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. I am sure that this competition will play a huge role in building up and promoting the potential of natural areas and the development of ecological tourism. "
