Individual excursion to the lotuses from Gelendzhik
Krasnodar Territory never ceases to amaze with its miracles! We suggest you visit one of the brightest places on the Taman Peninsula - the Indian lotus valley. A great many myths and legends are associated with lotuses. It is a mysterious and sacred flower in India, China and Egypt. We go to see these incredible aquatic plants.
The Lotus Valley was planted by human hands, as a result, the flower took root in the warm and fresh water of the Akhtanizovsky estuary. You will learn about the history of lotuses, about their role in culture, art and cosmetology. The way to the lotus valley will lie along the picturesque Erek River on a comfortable boat. Even before you reach your destination, you will experience a lot of impressions, because thanks to the many inhabitants of dense vegetation, this river valley has received the nickname "Kuban jungle".
During the period of lotus blooming (from July 1 to August 31), the surface of the lake turns into a pink-green splendor with a delicate aroma. This exotic flower lives for about a week and crumbles at the slightest touch. Almost the entire surface of the Akhtanizovsky estuary is covered with lotuses. The flowers of the Indian lotus reach a diameter of 10-15 cm. Picking them is prohibited, the plant is listed in the Red Book.
Then there are 2 routes to choose from: to the Poseidon beach or the Tizdar volcano. The time spent on any of the selected routes is about 3 hours.
An excursion to the Poseidon beach is a unique opportunity to see 2 seas at once - the Black and Azov seas. The beach has the style of Greece and is decorated with fountains, columns, bridges and various statues. You can take mud baths, swim, sunbathe under the rays of the sun, take wine SPA and enjoy the nature of the Azov Sea.
The second route is a visit to the Tizdar volcano, a recognized active volcano that attracts many tourists to this corner of Taman. Here you can experience all the properties of the healing mud, known from ancient times. Everyone can additionally visit the Kovcheg zoo corner, ride a small train, take wine SPA procedures and taste wine - brandy products.
Bring beach accessories, hats, we recommend bringing some water with you.
Before taking a mud bath, consult your doctor. There are contraindications!

The first people settled on the shores of the cozy Gelendzhik Bay more than 5 thousand years ago, there was a Greek colony and a Roman port, the Byzantines were replaced by the Khazars, the Genoese merchants and Adyghe tribes settled, the Turks ruled and the Russian troops won glorious victories. Admit it, at least once in your life you had the thought of giving up everything and giving up somewhere to the south, to the seashore; and not just give up - but completely, forever? So that you don't have to save up all year for vacation, and then choose where to go: in the summer to the beach or in the winter to the mountains. If you dream of a cozy apartment or house on the coast with a view of the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains, then welcome to Gelendzhik - the City where dreams come true!
Gelendzhik is the city of my dreams!
At 25 kilometers southeast of Novorossiysk, at the foot of the Markotkh mountain range, the resort town of Gelendzhik, the heart of the Kuban and the pride of the Krasnodar Territory, is comfortably stretched along the entire coast of the Gelendzhik Bay. The history of the settlement of the territory of this small town goes back to the Stone Age. A few kilometers from its current borders, there is a Lower Paleotic settlement and dolmens - stone structures of the Bronze Age, about 200 thousand years old.
In the VI century BC. ... there was a Greek trading colony Torik, later the land was settled by the Byzantines and Slavs. In the XII century A.D. ... developed Byzantine settlement perished at the hands of the Mongol-Tatars. In the Middle Ages, the coast of the bay was inhabited by the Zikh tribes, then their descendants - the Adyghe tribes: Natukhai and Shapsugs.
Since the XV century. Turkish rule was established on the coast. It is with this era that one of the versions of the emergence of the name of the city of Gelendzhik is associated: the village on the coast became a place of trade and export of female slaves by the Turks. Translated from the Turkic language, Gelendzhik means "white bride", from Turkish - "white poplar". Scientists, however, claim that the name came from the Adyghe "khylezh'yi" - "small bay".
The date of foundation of the city of Gelendzhik itself is considered to be July 23 (August 4, old style), 1831, when a landing under the command of Major General Berkhman was landed on the coast of the bay, whose main task was to choose a place and start building a fortification. The first stones were laid on the Tolstoy Cape (the city stadium is now located on this place). In 1915, having been a well-known Black Sea resort for a long time, Gelendzhik received the status of a city.
Gelendzhik Bay at night
The subtropical mild climate of Gelendzhik Bay makes the city a truly paradise. Judge for yourself: 250 sunny days a year, warm winters and no scorching heat in summer, sea warming up quickly in spring and cooling down for a long time in autumn - what could be more suitable for a comfortable life? The general picture is spoiled only by the nord-ost (bora) - a squall wind blowing from the mountains from November to March. It is not as strong as in neighboring Novorossiysk, but it is also unpleasant.
As for ecology, Gelendzhik is just a dream for health hunters. The combination of mountain and sea air, a huge amount of vegetation and the absence of polluting industries and large traffic flows make this city ideal for living and raising strong healthy children.
I ended the article "Life in Krasnodar - a woman's view of moving to this city" by saying that after 5 years of living in Krasnodar, we still wanted to live closer to the sea.
Among a few 5 cities on the Russian Black Sea coast - Anapa, Novorossiysk, Tuapse, Gelendzhik and Sochi - we chose Gelendzhik. We have shaken off Crimea, since it is less developed than the Krasnodar Territory, and the imposed international sanctions do not contribute to its rapid development.
At the moment we have lived in Gelendzhik for almost 2 years and I am ready to share my impressions and conclusions. This article will be about what features are here, what we liked and what we didn't.
Gelendzhik geography - location, bay, how to get there
Gelendzhik is a city with the status of a resort in the Krasnodar Territory, 180 km from Krasnodar and 25 km from Novorossiysk.
Gelendzhik formed around the Gelendzhik Bay of the Black Sea and at the foot of the Markoth mountain range. Thus, it turned out that the city is locked between a mountain ridge and a sea bay, which, on the one hand, is very beautiful and successful in terms of climate, and on the other hand, creates a certain tightness in the city, especially considering that the city was not built as a resort for millions of tourists - the streets are narrow and all the buildings are close to each other.
The entrance to Gelendzhik Bay is a nautical mile wide (1.8 km), located between two capes - Tonky and Tolstoy. They received such names because of the height of the coast, on the Tolstoy Cape the coast is high and steep, one might say thick.
Gelendzhik can only be reached by car, the railway does not go here. The closest railway station to Gelendzhik is Novorossiysk.
The straight-line distance from Krasnodar to Gelendzhik is 87 km, along the road - about 180 km. There are 2 roads to Gelendzhik, one of them bends around the mountain ridge through Novorossiysk, and the second - on the other side through the city of Goryachy Klyuch and near the village of Dzhubga. Although both roads are about the same in length, you can get there faster through Goryachy Klyuch, as there are almost always traffic jams in the Novorossiysk area.
From July 1, 2020, Russians will be able to go on vacation on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Mount Kilimanjaro, zebras and the ocean are not all that Tanzania can boast.
